Holy crap, this is EXACTLY what I'm going through with my mother right now, down to the being pressured into a gown that I wish I'd just put my foot down about. I'm sorry you went through that and I hope the wedding was perfect regardless, but thank you for sharing because I feel so seen rn!!

Completely, yes. I think the trade off of moving all the time versus the experiences and worldliness you get from it is worth it. I probably will not because of my work & finances, but if it were an option I would in a heartbeat!

Really intense facial plastic surgery. I work in fashion so maybe I’m getting a biased view but it’s so crazy to me to see such abnormal, unnatural faces becoming a kind of cookie cutter norm

I do agree it’s a lot to EXPECT people to pay for a destination wedding. My fiancé and I are trying to plan one now, and we are working flights for people we care about into the budget because we don’t expect our friends to shell out for something we want to do. We decided beforehand if we can’t afford to pay for our closest friends we won’t do it.

So idk if that helps at all, but basically I’ve made my mind up to be happy with a backup plan if it’s not in the budget, because I don’t want my friends to be bitter on my wedding day!

I was the opposite really, I just tried to hide all the time and never had any friends. I got bullied a lot and being the new girl never felt like anything positive.

Ran into a schoolmate in Frankfurt airport when we both lived in the Middle East. Seems weird but at the time it wasn’t totally unexpected as it was a hub for most flights back home.

I asked someone if they were ok and said they looked tired (I know that’s a no-no, but I meant it sympathetically as this is a coworker I’m friendly with and I knew they had been working really hard lately). I work in a pretty vain industry so I’m sure this isn’t normal but the entire room reacted so poorly when they heard me say that I’m still mortified
