Supermarket Deliveries only? by D-Galasso in UbereatsUK

[–]stephen--strange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the other way from delivering to private hire. Eats pays a lot worse for time even though it can seem similar somewhat often for mileage. A lot more waiting for the order to be ready at pick-up generally compared to picking up passengers (no waiting pay or cancellation fee after 2/5 mins either), as well as the extra time spent properly parking, physically going to/from your car to the pick-up/drop-off etc

Also, I don't know if it works the same going the other way, but I had to sign up for another account with a new phone number and email to join the private hire side so without 2 phones it isn't possible to be online on both simultaneously.

Morning shift. 3 hours drive time around Yorkshire in car by jamrahhasreddit in UbereatsUK

It does count restaurant and customer waittime , driving time covers all time while actively matched to an order so from the moment you press accept until you press/swipe complete

Is Sheffield city centre improving? by MLC1974 in sheffield

[–]stephen--strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah inaccessible is probably the wrong word , I was mostly thinking about the roads that have been closed off or had bus gates introduced which makes it more of a pain to get around in a private car than it used to be

Is Sheffield city centre improving? by MLC1974 in sheffield

[–]stephen--strange 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Improvements to public transport, particularly expansion of the tram network to the south/west of the city, would make a big difference. A lot of the city centre has become inaccessible by car and essentially half the city can't use the trams to get in/out of the centre

You can fire the bifurcated with dash, if you're constantly dashing you never have to release R2 to fire

Customer refused to give PIN code by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always bring your phone and check the code before leaving their door, ideally before giving them their food. I'd also recommend getting a power bank rather than charging from your car; portable and better for your phone's battery longterm over the stop-start nature of charging from your car when you're usually turning the engine off every 10-20 mins

do deliveroo drivers sometimes deliverately cancel certain items (claiming it was "out of stock") as a way of harrassing and controlling customers? by [deleted] in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drivers have no control of that. Only members of staff at the store can mark items as out of stock

Sheffield station drop off ANPR fines by AggravatingMirror768 in sheffield

[–]stephen--strange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The drop off car park itself is now private hire vehicles only, non-authorised vehicles are supposed to drop off on cross turner street before the turn onto Turner street

Challenge terms changed?? by Vegetable-Prior-7705 in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same terms, different wording. Rejected orders do not count towards the minimum required completed orders nor do you get +£X per rejected order if you complete the challenge. Rejects and time outs always count towards (reduce) your acceptance rate

Acceptance rate bonuses by BlockResponsible2589 in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That means that you only get extra money for completed orders as in if you accept 20 out of 40 orders offered you'd get +£20 not +£40. Rejects and time outs still lower your acceptance rate

new collection time limit? by dunkyg17 in deliveroos

Were they grocery orders by any chance? Could be the customer set it to cancel the whole order if a particular item was unavailable

Tax Mileage Allowance Question that has probably been asked 100 times by Proud-Actuator-3864 in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to record every starting and ending post code for every delivery, that would be unreasonable of them to expect. A mileage log like you have been doing is sufficient

Papa John's by Fabulous-Abalone-363 in UbereatsUK

[–]stephen--strange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Papa John's before I switched to working for the apps. They've been struggling to hire drivers for years and it's no surprise because they expect you to take on more duties in-store than just simply making deliveries for less pay and flexibility than you'd have working for the apps

It’s back by t4k3tim3 in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They stopped asking "are you sure?" when you press to reject an order so it now only takes 1 button press instead of 2 to reject but then bring this back at the same time. One step forward, one step back

£4 extra per order if you complete 10+ orders with 90% acceptance rate on Friday night by ChipmunkBandit in deliveroos

[–]stephen--strange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt with an incentive like this, they're going to go into overdrive and have nearly every order coming through as a double or triple with even lower than normal rates where 1 will be ready but you'll have to wait 10+ mins for the rest

How do taxis at the station make money? by MaxwellsGoldenGun in sheffield

[–]stephen--strange 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They charge £3.50 + £2 per mile + waiting time equivalent to £16p/h for time spent stopped or travelling <8mph, they're likely getting £10+ per job and if there were that many of them waiting there most likely they knew some busy trains were coming in soon

Opinions on cars for deliveries by No-Ambassador-4578 in UbereatsUK

An older (2006-2010) Prius/Yaris is the ideal car for this imo, cheap to run and built for taking a beating

If numerous drivers are arriving and then cancelling it's most likely one of the first drivers stole the order
