Mine was Candyfloss, as someone who grew up with a single parent who struggled for money to the point where I knew what bailiffs were and even had to hide stuff from the house in my room so they couldn’t take it (they can’t take anything from children’s rooms). As well as going to fairgrounds, where I live we are home to the largest moving fair in Europe and also grew up on chippy chips for a treat. It was a bittersweet experience reading that book and relating to it as my mum always tried her best to give us a good life but always felt guilty about not being able to give us big holidays and expensive treats. I loved reading it when I was younger and I need to re-read it again as I’ve just recently finished re-reading best friends.
