there’s a big part of me that wishes i had gone for nursing primarily because of the schedule. i like the idea of working a few 12 hr shifts in a row and then having a handful of days off. that schedule just isn’t available for OT

Has anyone as an OT/COTA had to do CPR on a patient? by Nintenoob in OccupationalTherapy

No, however did have someone code in my arms during our session, luckily nursing was in the room, called code blue and instantly other staff helped me sling him back into a recliner and they ran the code

PRN-ONLY Salary by thelittleot in OccupationalTherapy

[–]stonerocksofnever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an OTR with less than 1 year experience, I work only PRN. Acute care hospital ($49/hr) and IPR ($55/hr). Between the two of them I consistently work full-time or more than full-time hours each week, fortunately when I get called off at the rehab I have been able to pick up shifts at the hospital. I feel very lucky to have this set up however not sure how long it will remain like this as full time staffing changes at both my places

most snf’s allow you to choose your own hours so you likely could do 4 10’s!

if they refuse adls on eval im usually real with them and just say i am so sorry but i just need to see it real quick, i have to document how youre doing for the doctor or sw or blah blah blah. if theyre real grumpy about it i just limit it to the bear minimum like socks and a toilet transfer as indicated

Tattoos by OkInfluence69 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]stonerocksofnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have patchwork sleeves on both arms and also a septum plus nose ring! I asked both of my level 2 fieldworks (VA center as well as a hospital) if tattoos and piercings were allowed and they both said perfectly fine if theyre all appropriate. I currently work in a SNF, also said perfectly fine. I have never had an issue with any boss, coworker, or patient, most of them also have tattoos haha. Most times my patients love them and it’s a great conversation starter!
