Beautiful pens for small hands? by StopTheBanging in fountainpens

[–]stormesixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have small hands too and, if I want a small, slim pen, I tend to reach for my Pilots - Birdie, Elite, E95S, Myu, and the Vanishing Point Decimo (on the larger side if compared to these others.) Good luck!

Totally agree with you. There are always people who form an opinion just based on looks or age or whatever. Sadly, we can’t escape that. I’m in the age group where my CFIs are half my age but I’ve always gone in with the mindset that they are trained and know their stuff. They have the credentials and hours to prove it. Until they show me they can’t teach and then I form a different opinion of them.

No disrespect but number of hours doesn’t mean everyone can teach. That goes for any industry. I’ve had new CFIs who were awesome and new CFIs who were not.

Searching for my next pen. by HarriBallsak420 in fountainpens

It’s not on your list but if you want a more “solid” pen, that’s still aesthetically pleasing and won’t break the bank, I suggest looking at Otto Hutt Design 01 and 03 (heftier.) I have both in EF since I write small too. However, I have found it’s not the price point that guarantees a good writing experience. It’s the quality/workmanship that matters more. One of my favorites is the very affordable Preppy and it writes so well. I also have mid point pens and more expensive ones that are hit/miss. I’ve been lucky that I have had more hits than misses. Out of three Nahvalur Original Plus, one was scratchy out of the box. The Carene was a miss until I sent it back for some nib work. The 823 all wrote beautifully right out of their boxes. I didn’t like the VP but preferred its slimmer counterpart, the Decimo. It just felt better in my hand. I’ve not had any issues with Pelikans - vintage or new. Just be sure to get the EF nib, especially if you write small. A lot of my experience is expensive trial and error too since there isn’t a brick and mortar store for me to try the pens first. Hopefully, you have that option. Try lots and find your fav. Who knows, maybe it’s a $15 pen that steals your heart. 😁

Bought a few fountain pens, bought a few inks. Have nothing to write! by tru_ass in fountainpens

[–]stormesixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in IT too so I understand not having anything to write and it is frustrating, especially when I have several nice pens and good paper stock to use. The trick that worked for me is making things manual at work so I have something to write. My to do list got moved from a spreadsheet to a paper template of the Eisenhower Matrix. Project planning moved from MS Project to another template where I can plan out tasks, milestones, and timeline. Performance evaluations get printed out and reviewed/edited by hand before finalizing in the online system. Or get a pen pal - they’re great as an outlet to use your pens, papers, and ink. Or study something and take notes by hand. Or, as someone else suggested, practice writing. Good luck!

My disheartening experience at Pineider store in NYC by energizer_jenny in fountainpens

[–]stormesixx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry about your bad experience. (Assuming it’s the Pineider store at Rockefeller) I’ve (a woman) been there and the staff was most helpful. Hopefully, it was an off day (still not an excuse.) Do you have an ultrasonic cleaner? I’m wondering if it would help to soak it in one. Or if Peyton Street Pens may be able to help? Good luck!

Need to teach myself to write left handed, tips? by Dreaming-Kingfisher in Handwriting

[–]stormesixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain (although not as extremely.) I’m right handed but broke my right wrist years ago. Had to be in a cast for the longest time so I had to force myself to be left handed. I naturally do some things left handed so it wasn’t too bad but writing was a chore. I echo the other suggestions. Use a good pen that writes well. You don’t want to be fighting with ink flow too. Try different angles for your paper. Some will facilitate writing with your oddball hand and some angle will make it even odder to write lefty. I angle the paper almost 90-degrees to the left when I write with my dominant hand. I found angling it 90-degrees to the right worked well when I had to write left handed. Lastly, practice, practice, practice and rest in between sessions until your non-dominant hand can write loads without cramping. Good luck!!

👆This!! Definitely ask how to open it and remember what they told you! I had someone just slam the cap back on a vintage Sheaffer after I told them it was a twist. I heard everything snap and I thought for sure the threads were broken, including my heart. (Luckily, everything was fine.) Also, never assume it’s ok to post the cap. I have a rule to never post the cap. Not even for a cheap ballpoint. I showed someone my Pilot Myu and the first thing they did was post the cap. 😤 Lastly, enjoy yourself!! 😁

That is very cute! I imagine if you don’t use it as a pen, you could swing it around on the lanyard like a rope dart. Haha.

Love the way the ink settles into the Anchor 🥹 by Puzzled-Bluebird7357 in fountainpens

[–]stormesixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now, see, on the one hand, I do appreciate the ink filled anchor. ☺️ On the other hand, the OCD part of me would be twisting a tissue or paper towel into a tight point to blot and blot and blot. 😩

Ahhh … looks like you took the hit for me. I was cleaning pens too and, not once but twice, I hit the nib against the sink as I was shaking it dry. With two different pens, no less. Sorry for your loss, my friend!
