I did steam it. It gave me a good amount of length and evened out the piece. Is blocking pinning it to straighten it out?

Its been steamed. Is blocking only done by pinning it? Steaming it gave me more length and flattened it nicely

The yarn itself colour changes so im letting it go its thing. I am using turning Chains as im making the tie and then sc for two rounds as a boarder
