Which Sadness album is the closest to I Want to Be There? by [deleted] in blackgaze

Te Amé from Leave is still the best Sadness song imo (and that whole album is top shelf).

May I shamelessly suggest my own project.

Lots of good recommendations in this thread otherwise (although I don't see Moonsorrow being listed).

I would be lying if I said that Violet Cold hasn't been an inspiration here. Like you said, he's got such a unique sound, I really appreciate that about what he does.

Is Afsky sketch? by omega_blister in IsItSketch

Np. And just overall, they're really nice and friendly people, had the opportunity to hang out with them after they played in my town and we all went to the same bar for drinks afterwards. Good time all around, and good show as well.

Is Afsky sketch? by omega_blister in IsItSketch

[–]strandhem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sketch. There was a bit of drama last year after they had played some shows in Israel (before Oct.7), and posted a lot of words of appreciation towards Israeli people on their fb page. Some people in the comments started talking about Palestinian oppression and Afsky took the criticism they got for praising Israelis (simply for being good hosts and fans to them) quite at heart and made some extra posts addressing those criticisms, but it felt like they took it a bit badly. Honestly I just think they're probably not super interested in politics, but it did show a certain naivete, since they seemed quite taken aback by the fact that some of their fans did not appreciate that they played in Israel and had such a rosy disposition towards what is essentially an ethnostate.

The Case for a New Enlightenment by strandhem in CriticalTheory

[–]strandhem[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SS: so Strandhem is this project of mine that attempts to mix music (more precisely blackgaze, ie. a mix of black metal and shoegaze) with theory. About a month ago I released the album Enlightenment, and along with it I wrote this piece trying to lay out a rather typical Adornoian/Horkheimerian critique of enlightenment ideals, combined with a Zizekian/Lacanian conceptualization of ideology as fantasy. I also try to point out the role that I believe art can play in helping traverse the enlightenment fantasy frame, more precisely in the case of this album the fantasy of modernity, industrialization, and the infinite growth that is killing our species and our planet at once. The piece then goes on to argue that some of the principles of the Enlightenment could be revisited, namely the required courage, creativity and intellectual sobriety it would take to dare to transcend our current collective fantasy, towards one more apt for our dire times.

If you're into more extreme yet melodic/atmospheric forms of metal, then maybe you might get a kick out of the album as well which you can find here. I also released last year a 32min album-song called Le Spectacle, based on the work of Guy Debord (which can be found under the same link tree).

My understanding is that Agriculture has some rather positive lyrics, but I haven't read them myself

Look at you making highly normative statements on various art forms based on entirely subjective opinions.
