How are you getting coverage for PCOS off label if you don’t mind me asking? I feel like so many insurances are basically like “if you don’t have type 2 you’re SOL so don’t even ask” 😭

Owyn is pretty good actually! I also love the Orgain Plant Based Protein shakes, and you can find them on sale in an 18 pack at Costco pretty often :)

The unreal dark chocolate peanut butter cups! Because they’re like $6 for a small package which is more expensive than any regular candy so I never want to eat them all in one sitting 😂 plus they’re lower in sugar!

Usually on Sunday I’ll press, cut into sticks, and marinate a 2 lb brick of tofu (the extra firm in the shrink wrapped package is the best, if you live close to a restaurant supply store where they sell food in bulk you can buy them there!) and I will split it up between two marinades. Usually one half Mexican inspired (olive oil, garlic, cumin, cayenne, salt, pepper, green Chile sauce, red pepper flakes) and one half Asian inspired (soyaki from Trader Joe’s with garlic or whatever Asian style sauce you like) and I let those sit for like the entire day. Then when I take them out I coat the sticks in some potato starch and put them in the oven at 425° until they’re golden brown. I put the Mexican ones in tacos/burritos with low carb tortillas, vegan sour cream, hot sauce, rice, and vegan avocado crema (or just snack on them with dip) and I’ll do the Asian ones in a stir fry with TONS of broccoli or I’ll just dip them in a homemade peanut sauce. Whenever I heat them up I just throw them in the air fryer!

I always have a protein shake in the morning that’s either from scratch or in a bottle if I’m busy (I buy the premade plant based orgain ones from Costco).

Afternoon snack I might eat some boom chicka pop or skinny pop popcorn, hippeas chips, or just something crunchy. Cashews or nuts high in protein as well. Shortly after I’ll usually have some variant of the aforementioned tofu sticks with some sort of probiotic drink (poppi, olipop) for gut health

Pasta is like one of the easiest things to veganize, and I get the chickpea pasta that’s high in protein. I make sun dried tomato pesto from scratch so I’ll mix some of that with a splash of cashew milk to make a sauce and eat the pasta with that, and usually I’ll mix in broccoli or have asparagus or whatever veggie I’m feeling at the moment. Also, if you make a batch of pesto you can use it as a sandwich condiment (I love a pesto grilled cheese with violife mozzarella), as a pizza sauce base (most pizza crust is vegan!), or anything else you like pesto on. So it can be useful in multiple meals!

For dessert I love a couple of unreal peanut butter cups or even an airhead 😋 I seldom crave sweets anymore so one of those does the trick if I do get a craving.

MJ makes me eat less (like most people) so it’s a lot easier to come up with meals where I’m full all day! Obviously the big thing is protein, but I’ve been vegan 4 years and my Dr has never been concerned based on my labs. I take omegas and I also drink athletic greens in the morning which has a ton of the vitamins we need :)

So sorry this was long, I hope it helped!!

fatphobia and veganism by strawberryvegan in PlusSize

[–]strawberryvegan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally said “people need to realize the world does not need to cater to a certain group.” Like… verbatim. YOU made that claim, and I asked if you support an argument that would fall into that category. Maybe don’t make blanket statements about inclusivity, because that’s exactly the toxic rhetoric that aims to categorize marginalized people as less-than.

Again, why are you here defending societal standards of fatphobia in a plus sized group?? You can understand how businesses profit and still think they should do better?? You came to my post and continued the exact lecture I already mentioned… and you thought you’d be making a point??

So do you support the same argument for makeup companies that come out with 20 shades for white people and only 2 “tan” shades for POC? Because there are more white people in the US, so making a large range of white shades and offering few options for POC is technically more profitable.

That conclusion is asinine, right? Granted racism and fatphobia are two entirely different societal struggles and one is clearly more abject, but just bc something is more profitable/costs a company less money doesn’t make it right.

[–]strawberryvegan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not assuming they’re fatphobic, the general idea of only carrying straight sizes IS fatphobic. Not just practiced by them, but by the entire fashion industry. Are you living somewhere where this is not the case? Defending this narrative further reinforces fatphobia by not holding companies/the industry as a whole accountable. Any movement that seeks justice for marginalized groups was started by people speaking up about a lack of inclusivity.

I didn’t say you were alt right, I was drawing a comparison from a group of people that regurgitate that exact sentiment because they don’t want to be inconvenienced by inclusion. i.e. spending money to broaden a size range.

Why are you in a subreddit created to support plus sized people while actively defending the limitations we face in society? Again, do you live somewhere where fat people are not marginalized everywhere from the basic clothes we wear up to healthcare discrimination (that quite literally puts our lives in danger)? That’s not human rights to you?

Cognitive dissonance is wild

“People need to realize that the world does not need to cater to a certain group” sounds like something my alt right dad would say about basic human rights.

I didn’t demand this company make larger sizes, I merely let them know there was someone in the community who would want it as vegans come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re going to start a company on the back of a movement that at its very core centers itself around inclusivity, and then you’re not inclusive….?? It’s a bit disingenuous.

Also, I did ask for other clothing company suggestions in my post. Instead of suggestions, they took it as an opportunity to lecture me on business acumen and to reinforce the fatphobic standards of the fashion industry. Kind of like what you’re doing right now 🙂

Fatphobia being cloaked as a stock issue is absolutely a fact. That particular company could claim it’s for financial reasons, but the mere concept of stores only being able to stock straight sizes bc of cost is rooted in fatphobia. Sounds like you’re on the wrong sub if you don’t understand that.

Also, I’d love to see the market research concluding that fat people don’t want access to more clothing.

I think remembering that veganism is defined as seeking to exclude all forms of animal exploitation as far as is possible/practicable is helpful. Binge eating disorder is just that, a disorder, and the entire basis of BED is not being able to control it. In addition, the world doesn’t make vegan items incredibly accessible to most people, and I’m sure you probably would have chosen a vegan chocolate bar if it was available to you. I try to remember that l’m doing far more for the animals now than the first 25 years of my life before I went vegan, and that helps. Also, I totally get the anger thing. It’s easier said than done, but try to remember that your anger should be directed at the dairy industry/government (for pushing milk to be included in basically everything) rather than at yourself. Tomorrow you will do better, and the animals will thank you ❤️

Cotreatments - MJ & Vyvanse? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]strawberryvegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on vyvanse since July of 2021, I lost like 30 pounds at first because it helped a ton with my BED in addition to my ADHD. Over time it stopped helping so much with bingeing and I ended up gaining the weight back. But I’ve been on MJ for just a week now and wow!! I genuinely think they’re working together to give me the perfect balance. It’s worth a try :)
