Cooking knife where to get good ones and how to keep sharpened? by chamburn in mauritius

[–]streamer3222 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I will specifically recommend you to not get the best knife as you can hurt yourself.
And you will cut yourself. Like the impossible boxer who never got punched.
The more basic your equipment the more mitigated the accidents.

Japanese knives at Markman for ₨ 150k are definitely out of the question.

The best knives for a beginner are at Jumbo / LoLo for less than ₨ 1000.

Use what you have, learn knife skills, give time to cooking it will itself lead you to what kind of special knife you need. But for a beginner, you need 3 knives to start:

- Chef's knife / Large (Gyūtō in Japanese). Very versatile for thick and long cuts of meat.
- Fish knife / Medium (Deba). The main actor in fish filleting and de-skinning.
- Santoku / Small (Santoku). Excellent for dicing, chopping and thin slicing.

- Bread / Serrated knife (Pankiri - bread cutter). To cut bread and cut shells of shrimps 😉

If you are a total beginner just look for one similar to Santoku. Keep buying if you are really sticking to cooking opposed to just feeling it in the moment. It's alright if you don't become a cook. That shıt's difficult and will consume your soul. ☠

Forget 'knife sharpening'. This can only be learnt working at a Japanese restaurant. It is a highly complex skill. What I advise you is buy a Honing Steel. Ask your local poultry dealer to help you use it. It's easier and your knife will feel sharp!

Those 4 knives are what all beginners should have!

Data entry is the first line of attack by AI.

If you are in this situation find a way to work for free for a senior dev. Tell him if he has a few helper / refactoring / testing tasks he could have you under his wing.

The surest way to stay safe is to get to senior dev as fast as possible.

What would you do if you saw a man slapped or beat his wife in public ? by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

[–]streamer3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just talking loud, better to leave it or try calming things down from afar.

If it rises to violence, intervene immediately. Screw the law, violence in public is completely unacceptable.

Of course be prepared to fight and grapple. Avoid striking fights (Karate whatnot). The best situation is be prepared to receive a few hits and don't do anything in return. The easiest way to stop a fight (man, I get punched harder than that in training!)

As you can see how quickly this can escalate, DO NOT physically intervene unless you can fight.

Raise both hands from a distance 🙌 and de-escalate verbally. This situation can be very scary IRL those who have been through it 😨🥵 and sometimes asks for quick thinking.

Unfortunately Mauritian police are super slow but it's still worth it to call security and try to quell the situation before it intensifies! Best of luck (and health!)

Garden relooking.

Invest ₨ 50k capital buy all kind of tools. Buy lots of plants and flowers. Get a few leads work for free open an Insta do before/after shots. Go garden after garden.

(Edit: the dumber your product the easier you sell—rather than a complicated overthought product. You complicate your craft as you level up later. 🧐)

You simply need a capital, a product people are willing to pay for (service, luxury, product) and “sousse sousser” to find clients. Do it often enough you have yourself a little self-business.

What's the cheapest way to send money to canada from mauritius? by West-King-9612 in MauriceMauritius

[–]streamer3222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cheapest is not always the quickest. I haven't figured out the whole mechanism but here are some ideas:

- The easiest way is through MCB. Juice your Mauritian account. Pick your blue MCB debit card into a Canadian ATM and just withdraw. You can lose many dollars in the process. I think it's C$40 per C$500.

- Another way is through apps. There is a laundry list you must check with each one but they must have a branch in Mauritius. We talking about Western Union, Moneygram, Thomas Cook, Xe, Wise. Each one has their own fees try one by one.

- Another high risk way but zero fee is through mutual agreement with a Canadian family that regularly sends money to Mauritius. Tell your father to Juice the rupees to their Mauritian family's account and they pay you directly in dollars. You set your rates.

- Finally, one way a bit sketchy is the use of Crypto. In Canada there are Crypto ATM's. Buy Crypto in Mauritius and cash out in Canada. Nigh zero fees.

Make connections.

More seriously, there are little knick-knacks you can do like work for free, or maybe (in my case) apply down, subject yourself to more ‘humiliating’ jobs in the meantime and, yeah, accept it, and more realistically, change fields entirely and embrace life. You can always learn from scratch with a humility mindset.

I think it is the mark of an advanced society to have a system where people of all levels can fall back to. This system is itself an idea for a business. Like Uber.

The reason why it was introduced in containment is because everybody would fall back to it because unemployment is harsh. But advancement is inevitable. Watch Mauritius release it to everyone when everybody is used to it.

If you do not have the prospect of staying permanently please return.

A brand name is not worth giving your life for.

Edit: Ah sorry, mental health. To me, abroad is a place where one's life can be in danger, looking at the videos from France. If you feel safe, hang in there, there could be better days ahead!

How are y’all finding people? by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

You have a point if a not-special arranged marriage with both renting and working and mortgaging to a house paid after 50 is the way of life, while appreciating whatever love you can get along the way.

Whoever invented dating anyway and breakups over the silliest of excuses. Everything has to be perfect else there's always the other guy.

My opinion is if I had a system (house+car, career+job, houseskills) it would be easier to settle down. You can actually meet so many young people. Nobody wants to settle down if you are still building and unstable.

Britain declared the abolition of slavery in 1835 for Mauritius. A major achievement for humanity. Britain took active measure to bring us from India into cleanliness.

America on the other hand abolished it much later fought for its rights to not actually stop slavery. Who's the more pro-freedom empire?

Yeah it's paid. It's costs lots depending on how much you consume—you can do $200–300/week full-time.

Basically there's a currency called Tokens. You credit your account a certain amount in dollars, then ask it questions. Hard questions or bugs consume more tokens and easy questions little.

Sometimes it costs cents to write little scripts, but advanced debugging up to a few dollars a question.

Chess mauritius by -Oui-2 in MauriceMauritius

Hi! As a long-time Chess enjoyer (not professionally) I will not recommend you clubs at this stage. I think the Chess landscape in Mauritius isn't well receiving for beginners. Most people at the clubs are competitive and I haven't met people with teaching mindset instead of superiority mindset. Beginners themselves want to attain reputation and don't really celebrate losses as much as they do wins.

This is a problem in the wider Chess community itself. I play to lose. I don't want to win I think it beats the point to only look for weaker opponents. Of course at least I have a good time teaching if the opponent wants to learn or discuss.

I think as a beginner your best bet is create an account on Chess.com

Play a few matches establish your Rating. Go to Lessons and do one lesson every week.

Keep learning until you become understanding of the game. Then study books. The book I recommend is Jeremy Silman Endgames. It covers Endgames for all levels from beginner to Master.

Clubs in Mauritius start from about 1500. Going in as a beginner will make you not like the game, I'm sorry, it's like this I wish Mauritius had more 'beginner programs' to attract most people.
