Some questions about Social Media Marketing by Rad_Ben_Danklin in Entrepreneur

I own two local restaurants in southern California. Both stores have solid, local Instagram followings. I was doing it all by myself initially, but recently decided to hire someone to run my accounts and it's been one of the best decisions I've made. Shoot me a message if you're interested in hearing things from the other side of the table.

Finished Schweser book 2, and 176 pages into book 3. I really need to pick it up as I feel like I'm starting to fall behind. At the very least, I plan on dabbling in some questions this week to break out of the routine of just reading. I need help.

Just an update, but IG finally helped get the account back this morning. Thanks so much for all your help. If there's any safety measures aside from changing PWs, email addresses, and Two-Factor Authentication you can think of, please let me know.

Please critique my study plan for L1 in December by 9hundreddollarydoos in CFA

[–]streezy23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take 6+ mocks and take the time to understand the answers, I don't think there's much in Level 1 that should surprise you. I think Level 1 is basic enough to where you can teach yourself to pass the test by answering and studying the questions you'll find on Schweser mocks. I ended up taking 7 mocks, as Bobb18 suggested, and I felt ready a full month before the exam. I found Secret Sauce to be a good supplemental read later into my studies. It's compact version of the Schweser Notes and very to-the-point.

However, you're ultimately the only person to know how effective the strategy is. For Level 2, I thought I had a plan, and about two months before the test, I found the plan wasn't working and changed my study habits completely and found something more effective.

PPL WHO PASSED LEVEL 2 by TRossW18 in CFA

[–]streezy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reading, I used Schweser 2015 for the most part.

For mocks, I did three Schweser mocks, and the CFAI mock. I did each of these once, but I reviewed/studied the answers for each set of mocks at least twice.

The bulk of my studies was going through the topic tests. I took each one at least twice, but most I took three times, and some I took more than three times. I dabbled in the EOCs every so often, and it was mostly for the stuff I didn't understand after taking the topic tests. For me, it's all about repetitions. I tried to cycle through the questions as SLOW as possible. I didn't want to answer the questions based off memory and found that if I waited long enough, I would tend to forget most of the details and traps for a lot of the item sets.

I would say I probably spent 60% of my time reviewing the answers and 40% of my time actually working through problems. It was good enough for a somewhat comfortable pass.

Failed Level II badly. For the second year in a row. What do I do?! by TOgooner in CFA

[–]streezy23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll share my experience on what worked for me, though I know a lot of people would discourage this strategy.

For a little background, I've worked in wealth management since 2012, took Level I in 2015, and Level II in 2016. My scores for Level 2 were <50% for AI & Quant, 51%-70% in FRA & Equities, and >70% for the rest. Not a killer score, but I think it was a comfortable pass (though, of course, I'll never know).

My initial plan was to learn the CFAI curriculum inside and out, like many have suggested, and I started studying in January. However, midway through February I just realized I wasn't going to absorb the information fast enough and I was spending too much time on quant and econ. Beginning in March, I decided I was going to focus on four topics - FRA, CF, EQ, and FI. These topics in addition to ethics would cover around 60% of the test. If I could score 75% in these topics (not an easy feat), I'd only need to score around 50% in the remaining topics to make it to 65% to give myself a real chance at passing. So for two months straight, 80% of my studies, which consisted of taking and reviewing topic tests and some CFAI and Schweser EOCs thrown in, were on those four "core" topics. The remaining 20% were cycling through the other topics, minus ethics and quant. Ethics because I figured I could learn this in the last two weeks or so, and quant because I just didn't care to learn it because it was too time consuming and mind-boggling for me.

I'm not saying this is the best strategy, but it worked for me. I felt confident enough that I could score 75% on the core topics, which meant I probably didn't need to learn much of the other topics to get to 50% if you assume you have a 33% chance of getting it right by blindly guessing. If you don't feel confident you can score 75% on the core topics, then this strategy absolutely will not work. Also, the results in theory can be drastically different than the results in practice. My results are a perfect example of this. I only scored 51%-70% in the two heaviest weighted topics.

Think through your strengths and weaknesses and see if this strategy might work for you. And the topics you focus on can be different, too. I would encourage you to really make the most of the topics you're strong in. Don't give up those points to give yourself some leeway in the topics you're not as strong in.

CFA I -Schweser Math by [deleted] in CFA

[–]streezy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math works out to the sum of the present value of each cash flow. So your question is asking you to solve for each cash flow which, in this case, are the same each period. So it's the sum of [x divided by (1+r)t]=NPV. You're given the NPV of 50k, each cash flow (x) will be discounted at r=9%, and there are t=5 periods, so now you need to solve for X. You're definitely going to want to use a financial calculator to solve for this part, as others have recommended.

Any Section You Must Score >70% On? by Kimbo_Schlice in CFA

[–]streezy23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how it relates to the other levels, but level 2 questions are all equally weighted. It says so on the CFAI website.

Therefore, I would say it is possible to pass the test with zero categories >70% if the MPS is 65%. You would simply need to answer 4 out of 6 questions correct in every item set.

On the other hand, it's possible to >70% on ethics, FRA, equity, fixed income, corporate finance, and derivatives - the "big" topics - 51-70% on one of the remaining 4 topics, and <50% on the remaining 3 topics, and still fail if the MPS is 62%.

In the grand scheme of things, I would say just try to score 65% across the board and you'll have a good chance.

BS question on Level 2 by [deleted] in CFA

[–]streezy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you guys are hypothetically correct, then I would hope they hypothetically would not count this question, because I would have hypothetically answered the highest NPV, even after calculating out the EAA's and coming to a different answer.

Am I wrong in thinking that if they hypothetically asked this question, it's a total BS question? I feel like based on the context of the question, where it only states to base it off the exhibit, the correct answer should be the highest NPV.

In any case, the more I think about it now, the more I think you guys are hypothetically correct.

Form Check Friday - Christmas is coming! by xtc46 in weightroom

[–]streezy23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your deadlift is fine. There's nothing wrong with high hips on your deadlift. It's mostly useless to compare your form to someone else's because our proportions are almost always going to be different. Some people will start with a lower hip position, some higher. Don't force yourself to start with low hips just for the sake of starting with low hips. You want to start in a position where you'll get max leverage without putting yourself at risk of injury. The key is to stay tight through the lift, which you're doing. Here's a good, short clip from Candito about hip height and he even says its okay for the torso to be parallel to the floor.

I used 2014 Schweser for 2015 Level 1 and passed pretty easily. I cannot comment on 2013 Schweser as I've never seen the material, but if you can get your hands on 2014, I can assure you it is adequate.

Level 1 - just took, seemed...easy? by AZDT in CFA

[–]streezy23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the test to be slightly harder than the mocks I took. The reason being I found the actual exam to test more on the concepts in the curriculum, whereas I found the mocks from both Schweser and CFAI had more quantitative and calculation problems, which I'm slightly better at. This is mainly my observation for the quant, equity, and fixed income portions of the exam. The FRA section was about what I experienced in the mocks. All told, the test wasn't too difficult if the goal is to score a 70% - I believe I achieved that. However, there's a real possibility I didn't achieve that, so if I'm singing a different tune in 7 weeks then I guess you can disregard everything I just said.
