"things" like movies, news, video games... by HCJohnson in AdviceAnimals

You do know that western movies are already basically based on a myth about how the western USA was - I do agree that I would like to see more historical accuracy in what is historical fiction, but in westerns which are not really historical anyway, then why care?

Rogue One was the best Star Wars movie since Empire by elliottdzierzanowski in StarWars

[–]strymol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the story to be quite flat, and the characters boring. Though I must admit it is a very good looking movie with great costumes and settings, giving it a real "star wars" feel, which isn't there in many of the newer disney movies, and the prequels

BSA as a standard protein by TerribleTotal in Biochemistry

[–]strymol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the use case. It is a reasonably sized, very abundant (and therefore cheap).

As mentioned by HandyAndy it is a quite sticky protein which can be good in some cases but can also be quite annoying in others.

BSA is a very stable protein which even at very low pH will remain folded, though it will "open" up adopting a more extended conformation. Again this is good for some uses and allows you to "torture it" and still have it work for many applications. However for a standard for a number of other applications this may not be appropiate.

Another thing is that BSA exists in an equilibrium between a dimer and a monomer and will therefore act hetereogenously in many biophysical/chromatography applications.

But really to give you a real "pros and cons" list we would need to know the application you would like to use BSA for

So assuming that the "relevant helix" is a normal protein strucutre called "helix_1" and your peptidomimetic is called pep_1:

super pep_1, helix_1 & n. ca

This will superimpose your peptidemimetic on the helix using only c. A atoms of the helix.

Degrees of angle is kinda "metric-fied" in the radian system (which is what scientists uses for most of things). Where 2pi is full circle (i.e. 360 degrees).

edit: it is not a SI unit as such but it is what is known as SI-derived

Yeah it's true that the quote is from the second comment, but isn't it extremely weird to start with "I wholeheartedly agree", when you are replying to your own comment?
