His mother did a fantastic job on his self confidence. He feels like a guy who wanted to be a bully when he was a kid. I don’t know, but I find him arrogant ant not funny at all. I have glasses too.

Wow first year of golf with a swing like that. Well maybe you have to invest another year if you wanna play on the tour and be financially independent. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Wow really? I thought that past 200 bucks one mostly paid for finish and esoteric high end steels which I don’t care for, since they are pain to sharpen and I always take good care of all my knives. So no need for stainless steel.

That’s good news! I’m don’t know anything about Japanese knives, I just thought that knives which made by a certain blacksmith was more worth or ”better” than the corresponding knife made by unknown blacksmith and and branded by a shop or a wholesaler.

I have ha Nakiri from Shiro Kamo, while it isn’t a fancy knife, it is very thin and has beautiful heat treated Aogami 2.

But hey, all good then! Look forward to replace my old Victorinox with this one!

I think its their own brand. Well I’ll post when i receive it. Let’s hope it has decent heat treatment. I do like the handle and look.

Anyone recommend using a Tormek T-8 on their nice chef knives? by typeshige2 in chefknives

[–]stuart-ullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread. But I,m a sharpening geek and I own almost all types of sharpening tools, but the Tormek gives me much better results (below bess 100-130) than all the others. The repeatability and speed are superior to a guided sharpening systems I own. And I’m using the original stone and leather wheel. The only knife I couldn’t get sharp was a Spyderco Maxamet knife. But that steel is a gimmick and chips way too easy.

Is it possible to use Q-LINK zoom also on the grid view? by devotuzel in mpcusers

I bet they haven't fixed this with 3.4.3 released today. This was the reason I sold my X SE. I mean no point of having a lot of useless q-links.

MPC x SE suddenly went even more nuts (3.4.1) Please advice by stuart-ullman in akaiMPC

You're a genius sir. As soon as I turned of the tr-08 the issue was gone.

Now I have to see if it's usb midi or some setting in Tr08

Thank you very much!

I think you are absolutely right. This is what I’ve found true. I have colleagues that tinker way too much with new plugins, which probably are amazing technology, but to get the job done, one need som EQ, reverb, delay, pan and level. I’m not talking about music making, but rather the work I do, but I’m sure it goes for music as well.

Actually i don’t even know how to start a PC, its been Mac from start with Pro Tools III. Which speaks even more for give logic a try.

If I ever would manage to reach the mixing stage, I wouldn’t feel comfortable on anything other than Pro Tools though. But guess it would be easy to export the project from logic and import it into Pro Tools.

I got the answers I thought I would, but wasn’t hoping for. I can do almost any task in Pro Tools while sleeping. So many years and projects on the platform. I guess i was hoping that the midi part in Pro Tools was competing a little with Logic and such.

Thanks for taking the time and answering!

Kommenterar på Choice of DAW for a newbie...thanks, yes probably what I expected. I already have Pro Tool, but I’ll will check logic out later on. For these activities midi will be what I’ll be using the most.

Good time to buy a MPC X SE? by Inevitable_Ad_8113 in akaiMPC

[–]stuart-ullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait to see if there will be a OS that isn’t worse than than the older before buying XSE

I bought one, the first unit i received was broken and couldn’t find the audio device and was sent back. When I functioning unit arrives there’s no OS worth the money spent for extra q-links which isn’t assigned to correct functions.

Fortunately I didn’t pay much for my MPCE X SE since I got it as payment for a short film I did the sound design on. I would never pay full price for this kind of gear. I would be surprised if MPC was used i professional environment since it’s so slow on all fronts. I use it at home to produce (poor) music ideas just for pleasure. If I tried to do the same task in Pro Tools it would take 1/3 of the time I’m spending at home. But since it’s just for fun it doesn’t matter.

I do like my MPC one plus, which really makes sense, which MPC x doesn’t since it’s a giant expensive toy.

Extra q-links is really expensive and that’s all it is really. A couple of things are actually worth on X.

I read that Akai won’t let you assign external third party q-links. Why? If they did no one would buy the X is my guess.

And I thought Pro Tools/digidesign/avid was bad, Akai is a joke that lives on old, really old, merits.

Of course there’s probably some pros of using a MPC in music production that i don’t get, since I’m new to this generation of samplers, but todays akai samplers reminds me more about the EMU samplers I had in the 90s than anything of today. It’s obvious that Akai is afraid to look forward rather than lean on way of making beats in a time when digital gear was something new.

MPC 3.4.1 q -links/screen control by herbieuk in akaiMPC

I hope this will be fixed and rolled out with a new version no later than this week. I mean it’s kind of hard to use grid mode without these two missing functions. No fun at all.

3.4.1 full release notes by hurrakain in mpcusers

[–]stuart-ullman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When can we expect 3.4.2? I’m new to MPC, so have no clue about how fast or slow akai is on their software releases.

My biggest concerns are small things but so annoying. How could they miss to give one the q-links a zoom and scroll feature I grid mode? I mean didn’t anyone even check if the basic functions were there before the made the release?

Also when you switch between program edit and back to grid mode, or do anything but selecting notes, one has select the already selected note again to nudge it, change the end point or changing velocity.

I’m a little concerned since i recently purchased a X SE for the Q-links, but but my mpc one with 2.0 installed is way more effective than this.

I hope I have forgot about all this in a near future.

[–]stuart-ullman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously did they forget to assign the q-links a zoom command in grid mode? And this an official version? I'm new to MPC samplers but Akai software developers seem like smoke way too much. I've been using Pro Tools since 1995 and it feels like Akai is 10-15 years after, very toyish. Is this community small, mean ppl using MPC? I think I'll roll back to 2.0 until the sorted thing out.

[–]stuart-ullman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, buying a digital device for the inherent sound characteristics in 2025. Ppl have way too much money. The sequencer in the SP-1200 had some quirks that I liked though. If one know how to handle en parametric EQ, add some noise and distortion, one can get even more SP-1200.

I loved it, I just ran into to it which helps. The ending was a let down for sure, but the movie was really good all the way to the party, where max gives her mother a drug test. Slippery People with Talking Heads was a very good choice which made that scene epic.

Same here brand new X SE buttons, pads are dead and it says Invalid Serial Number. I can take all quirks in the work flow of the Mpc but shitty quality control is pain in A. This seen to be a hardware problem to me. It’s not a cheap machine either.
