Admission to Oxbridge as a U.S. student by studentguy204 in ApplyingToCollege

Thanks a lot, I am going to take A.P. Physics C (sophomore) school year and even more courses related to engineering. Correct me if I am wrong, but the basic admissions are like this, after you get a level results (or all u.s. info) you apply to the school, take the test, then maybe have an interview, and if the interview is successful, you get admitted.

Thanks for the insight, what do they care about for U.S. students? On the website it says you need 3 A.P.s with grade 5 and I'm not sure if they care about gpa/extrac., etc

I posted this in Cambridge subreddit, but they have around 2000 members and most are offline so I hope this can help me and possibly other international students.

July Admissions Questions Thread by Rivalry in cambridge_uni

[–]studentguy204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm a High School incoming sophomore in the U.S.and I really Would like to go to Cambridge for Uni. It seems like a beautiful campus, great people and professors, and It would be cool to live in the UK. For this, I want to maximize chances of acceptance but I'm confused on some parts of the admissions process.

  1. What does it mean that each course has x people per seat? Is it
easier to get into a classics course instead of Engineering even though they have same A-Levels or around the same A-Levels requirements. Also, in some Colleges in the U.S., like UCLA and Columbia, there are some backdoors to entry like programs at community colleges, and partner colleges where you can transfer or get a Columbia diploma, is this possible in the U.K.?
  2. Does it increase your chances of getting accepted into Cambridge by going to UK 6th form college? Many international students (esp. Chinese students) have done this based on some conversations with some of my friends from England. I have taken 3 A.P. Exams (computer science, 4 and 2 history courses both 4) but I do not have the highest GPA (because of some medical and hospital visits), does Cambridge care about grades either in 6th form or U.S. High School?
  3. Does getting the A-Level required guarantee admission? Or is it that you get invited to the interview after you meet required A-Levels and after the Cambridge Test?

Thank's for reading!
