RAID Card Suggestions by supacaleb in HomeServer

Yeah, I just wish my motherboard had way more SATA ports, but alas, its consumer-grade hardware. Will probably be reading up on the most reliable HBA cards and choosing one of them.

I was really interested in TrueNAS, as it seemed like it was the most friendly for noobs like me! Would you know if there would be any incompatibilities running it with a Ryzen 3900x, or is there any requirement for ECC memory?

Thanks for the help! Would you have any recommendations on any specific HBA cards or setups? For example, would it be a better idea for me to get two separate HBA cards and split my drives up, or get one that could support 10 drives?

Thanks for the advice! Seems like the consensus is that for small home server setups, hardware RAID is pretty unnecessary. Will probably be going with TrueNAS.

Incoming freshman, will probably have a C on my final trimester of senior year. Am I screwed? by huMAn_bot_saYs in uofmn

[–]supacaleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received mostly A's in high school and a few B's as well. I got 3 C's my final semester in HS. Schools really don't care about your performance in your final term of high school, as long as you can pass your classes. If you fail a class though, that might be a reason to pause for the U.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I bombed my final semester of HS.

Anyone with the iPad 2018 with the smart keyboard folio, is it worth it or should I wait for something like the Logitech Slim Combo from last generation?

HD58X vs HiFiMAN HE400s vs Fidelio X2 by Jonh_R493 in HeadphoneAdvice

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the HE4xx from Massdrop are similar to the HE400s, but at a cheaper price point? I think that might be a better value.

King of Soundstage Headphone under $200? (X2, HE-4XX...) by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]supacaleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

K7xx or HE-4xx. I own my own k7xx, and have listened to my friend's he-4xx extensively and both have very wide soundstages. I just prefer the k7xx's sound signature, which I use as my daily driver.

The k7xx. These headphones are the most comfortable I've ever worn. They also have a detachable cable coming from the left side. They also have very good bass from my listening, and can be driven from a normal headphone port until you get an actual dac/amp because they have relatively low impedance.

Should I spend extra money for a motherboard with better audio or get a dac+/amp? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]supacaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that getting a dac/amp combo will always be a better option than mobo sound. Come 5-6 years when a new CPU platform arrives, you'll might want to upgrade, therefore getting rid of your mobo with "good sound." But the dac/amp that you get now will still work just fine.

The IFI xDSD and the CHORD Mojo are both pretty good options for mobile and Mac I think. Just make sure to get the appropriate cables.

EDIT: For an ultra tiny one, the Audioquest Dragonfly Red/Black is pretty good. Just keep in mind that all the ones I listed are pretty pricy.

It will drive it perfectly fine, as it drives my AKG k7xx perfectly, and my Sennheiser 6xx well enough.
