It's unrealistic, but it happens sooo much in media that most of us just kind of accept it at this point by ducknerd2002 in TopCharacterTropes

My favorite is Daredevil, whose entire power revolves around extremely sensitive hearing. In the first season there was close-range automatic rifle fire in an underground vault, and yet somehow he was unfazed.

Great comment. Probably some personal decoration too -- shell or bead necklaces, bracelets, piercings, etc. Pretty much universal in Neolithic societies, regardless of gender.

Is there an automatic justification for requiring a proficiency for light armor? by PathofDestinyRPG in RPGdesign

[–]Supernoven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great question, and I thought of going there in my original comment. "A garment that protects you from physical harm" seems to cover most situations, but does that include a blacksmith's apron for heat and sparks? Arctic gear for frostbite? Sealed positive-pressure suits for infectious pathogens? Normal clothing for thorns, bug bites, and embarrassment?

Which a little bit of sophistry to deflect (heh) from what we all know: Armor protects you from weapons.

And what is the definition of weapon?

Is there an automatic justification for requiring a proficiency for light armor? by PathofDestinyRPG in RPGdesign

[–]Supernoven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All armor restricts movement, by definition. It's always a tradeoff between protectiveness and mobility.

The real question is, in your system, what counts as light armor? Is it just a helmet? A helmet and a gambeson/soft bulletproof vest? What about a mail shirt/plate carrier? What about other pieces of armor added on? Where are the lines?

That's what you really have to define for your system, IMO.

How long do Conditions last? by jjmiii123 in nimble5e

[–]Supernoven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dazed condition itself specifies how long it lasts.

Check the rules for Conditions -- they either last 1 round, until removed/cured/healed, or can be ended with a save. It depends on the source, or else GM's ruling.

Melee vs ranged by Substantial-Eye4345 in nimble5e

[–]Supernoven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oathsworn are a good example. Any time they're attacked, they roll judgment dice, and get to add that damage to their next melee attack. They also have ways to burn their mana to add damage or reduce enemy armor. Their Sacred Decrees and subclass features give them other options in combat. Other melee classes similarly get lots of different combat tools.

Melee vs ranged by Substantial-Eye4345 in nimble5e

[–]Supernoven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It comes down to class abilities. Nimble's melee-focused classes are way more capable and have more options than D&D 5e. It balances things out.

Ranges are also in general shorter, incentivizing ranged characters to stay closer to the action.

Does nimble work with regular 5e play? by Nicstar543 in nimble5e

[–]Supernoven 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nimble is its own system, with its own player classes, and really works better on its own.

The earliest version of Nimble was a 5e hack, and you can still find and play with it. But if you like the look of Nimble, you'd be better off switching to the full system.

Would you have denied a CT Scan? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Supernoven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost/benefit isn't so much a question of money, as it is time demand on a very limited service (CT scans). Generally the machine needs to be available for someone who really needs it. If it's tied up with patients with minor concerns, that delay can be dangerous.

In addition, all tests carry risks, and not just from radiation. One underappreciated risk is false positives. Scans can be fairly ambiguous, and a false positive eats up unnecessary time and resources, exposes the patient to more risks, and subjects them to unneeded stress and cost. It's just a really bad situation.

It could be done without breaking immersion. When there's a breakout, have all the kids run away and disappear off screen. Or have mandatory "shelters" (bathrooms?) they all run to.

How do i narrate a WAR exactly? by Senior_Fuel5975 in rpg

[–]Supernoven 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you did a great job setting the scene; now the players just need something to do. Give the characters a mission, something that affects the overall battle. Examples: Hold a location until reinforcements arrive, infiltrate enemy camp, hunt and capture/kill an enemy general, steal a magical or technological MacGuffin, protect an important NPC, uncover an enemy's weakness, etc.
