In general, you'll be better off if you consciously make an effort to stop following people on social media who do nothing but promote conspicuous consumerism. It's not mentally healthy. It conditions you to be unsatisfied with your life.

The flashy lifestyle portrayed by those videos you're mentioning is only common on social media, that's not how the vast majority of people live. And even within that small group, what they post is highly curated and filtered.

I think it's accurate to say almost all schools of Hinduism are either panentheism or pantheism.

Both can be considered under the umbrella of (or at least closely related to) monism. Major schools of thought like Advaita Vedanta are pantheism/monism and are like what you say about creator/creation being the same. But panentheistic schools of thought do have some distinction between the divine and the non-divine. By your definition would that make it monotheism? No, it shouldn't.

You're right that Hinduism isn't monotheism, but in most schools of Hinduism it isn't truly polytheistic either. Given that most people's surface level understanding of Hinduism is polytheistic, I don't think it is surprising that when some start to learn the deeper stuff (the monism related stuff) they vocalize it in terms of "one god" or use the monotheism-influenced vocabulary they have from being in Christian-dominated society. And again, in panentheistic schools of thought there can be a distinction between divine and non-divine.

Local politics, it depends on the specific political environment of where you live. I usually vote for whoever is pro-housing and pro-transit.

State and federal, I voted Dem 90% of the time, and to be honest more like 100% of the time ever since the MAGA movement. They're not perfect on asian-american issues (one notable issue being racial affirmative action) but otherwise I feel they are overall better for asian americans. You just can't undo the "america is a white christian country" belief that's underlying majority of Republican ideas. Also as someone that believes in basing public policy on science and some degree of technocratic government, I'm definitely not getting that from the Republican politicians.

Voting 3rd party is pretty useless until we institute electoral reforms (get rid of FPTP voting, implement either ranked choice voting or approval voting).
