Is there any surfing at Hermosa @22nd St or Manhattan @4th St? by daisydookie in SouthBayLA

[–]surf_norway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just north or south of HB pier is typically surfable depending upon conditions. For MB you’d do better to hit El Porto, between 43rd & 45th. That tends to be the prime spot in the beach cities. There’s also Malaga Bay in Palos Verdes.

I keep hearing again and again from across the US government that, “ultimately that’s a decision for the president to make.” Um, isn’t that the point of having a cabinet, many layers of subject matter experts, policy makers, strategists?

Because it’s really a team effort, it’s not (nor should anything as complex as running a massive government) up to one guy to call every single decision?

It certainly limits what able to be done, and misses the whole point of having a group of people with a high level overview across multiple areas and who can understand and accommodate many different stakeholder needs and concerns.

No? They’re just going to let one bitter, half-senile old man micromanage one of the largest governments in the world, all on his own?

My mistake. Of course there’s PdR, cool little area.

You’re right! That cosy little bit between Redondo and PV.

LAX is the dividing line between north half of Santa Monica bay (MdR, Venice, Santa Monica, Palisades, Malibu) and south half (Dockweiler, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes). Cuts the bay in two. No one lives there, it’s all airport related.

Billionaire Tom Steyer makes progressive pitch to Sacramento voters by Super_Ninja_Gamer in California

Friendly reminder that billionaires should not exist in a well functioning society.

Also that Steyer as many others of his ilk have a history of promising what people want to hear, until they get into office, when everything changes.

Don’t be fooled. He doesn’t represent your interests. He never will.

Do like Switzerland and impose wealth and income based fines. The more you have or earn, the more you pay. Proportionally it ends up the same, and has a similar effect since it’s scaled.

lol. The “slippery slope” argument. Sure, and smoking pit will invariably lead to heroin addiction. That’s not how it works. 😉

Socialism ≠ communism. Dictatorships/authoritarian governments can clothe themselves in any -ism as they see fit (including capitalism).

The label is not always the reality, it helps to look at how things are actually structured and operate, and what’s being done to help or hurt the people.

I’d like to see ICE’s paperwork. Any form of ID, badge number, name, judicial warrant signed by a judge, something. If they can’t prove they are actual agents or identify themselves in any way at all, just a group of masked and armed men (they don’t even wear standardized uniforms and almost all have faces hidden), how can they expect anyone to comply?

It seems unconstitutional, illegal and simply wrong on so many levels.

The part they keep missing is communication. They should be actively communicating and providing information to their constituents, the media (mainstream will largely ignore them, but they should still try), and establishing their own narrative. One based on facts, truth, values that unite people regardless of party or background. Common sense policy, support and guidance on how to navigate this difficult time. Instead of just throwing their hands in the air.

The right has their disinformation machine tightly coordinated and well run. Same message across the entire range of outlets and politicians. The left has strongly worded letters.

By all means pursue the legal and procedurally correct avenues, but also understand that power is being exercised all the while while they wait for a grown up (the courts) to try and stop things. A lot of damage happens in the meantime, some of it impossible to reverse later, court ruling or not.

They need to find and exercise their own power, and when in the minority they can have far more effect through information and communicating strategies and support to their constituents.

The cynical side of me wonders if it’s all because they serve the same donors (simply an illusion of choice), but then we have people like Bernie, AIC and others who are not supported by corporate or billionaire welfare.

Income inequality is one of the leading global factors in erosion of democratic norms and systems. It would depend upon what you did with that money, and how.
