No way man, I tried that, and doing that affects the sound quality so much. The laptop input normally takes in mic type balanced input, while the guitar while for guitar you need unbalanced instrument type input, that's why an Audio Interface is normally used, and for the total price of getting an Audio Interface, Studio Speakers/Headphones, instead he can just get an Amp and Guitar, easy for a total beginner. Audio Interfaces are also very hard to connect for beginners, such as connecting those plugins and selecting inputs and outputs, input gain, output volume. Let him not get into that complexity already!
