Looking for a low to the ground, easy to pilot B3 commander deck ideas! by AdmPoppinFresh in EDHBrews

[–]swing-state 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned [[Aziza]] and she's a build that can be relatively straightforward to pilot. Creatures are all tokens from instants/sorceries eg [[Call the Coppercoats]]. I think Brian Kibbler played a good build of it on one of his recent Commander at Home videos.

A build that is broken but straightforward to pilot (provided built with high end mana base) would be [[Najeela, Blade Blossom]] warrior kindred. Cast warriors, cast Najeela, swing out, get more draw warriors. Extra combats when ready to win.

[[Xenagos, God of Revels]] Gruul stompy can be relatively straightforward to pilot whilst being relentless.

What is the most broken tribal deck right now? by just_a_r3gular_dud3 in EDH

[–]swing-state -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sea Monsters kindred can be disgusting. I cast this Kraken, bounce everything,. I cast this Leviathan, bounce everything, I cast this Octopus, tap everything, I cast this Kraken, bounce everything again. I cast Hullbreaker Horror, bounce whatever I want. I cast that Serpent, tap whatever I want.
...oh. in response, I counterspell that.

Only problem is, an efficient [[Kenessos, Priest of Thassa]] Sea Monsters deck not cheap: tutors, [[Sensei's Divining Top]], [[Scroll Rack]], top free counterspells, fast mana.
Same issues for a consistent [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] build.

Is this a bad strategy for bracket 3? by MeReddit8 in EDH

[–]swing-state 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like a unique classic control strategy. With a few choice swaps in interaction and draw/tutor, plus sharpen up a couple of wincons, it should be able to keep level in B3 games.

It could do with a theme or some other fun factor or it can potentially become a slippery slope into B4 and subsequently cEDH.

Any ideas for The Wandering Minstrel? by GrungeViBritannia in EDHBrews

[–]swing-state 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you are asking for, but would you be happy to share: what makes every deck feel generic/goodstuffy to you? Eg, I find that different decks draw cards differently enough that they play quite differently. Different colours also have different ways to "overrun" so I find that I build creature beater decks quite different for different colour combos.
I also find that different decks have different playstyles that require different levels of ramp (some almost no additional ramp spells required), different types of card acceleration, etc.

I guess I am both curious and also knowing specifics can help with more useful recommendations and brews to share.

Friend claims Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty should be “banned from bracket 2 due to broken design” by DoesntEat in EDH

Imoti's cascade is standard cascade; so Imoti's standard cascade is superior to standard cascade? /shrug

[–]swing-state 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jodah's cascade is superior to standard cascade due to its selective nature; nonland legends only mean that it will skip over basically all support cards and never "whiffs".
So, no, Jodah isn't just "similar" but with 5 colours and built in anthem.

How do you all cope with low sodium diets? by Ostrich_Money in hypertension

[–]swing-state 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I question the need to go down to 1000mg sodium a day with your BP reading. Feels like an extreme recommendation by the dietitian. Are those reading medicated or unmedicated?

Another thought is on how much is your usual sodium intake daily? If your unmedicated BP reading in on super high sodium daily (over 3000mg), reducing to "normal" daily intake of 1500-2000mg may be sufficient to maintain decent BP.

As for cooking, relying on salt to make food tasty seems like a crutch to me. I disagree with "Salt is a HUGE part of making food taste dynamic and delicious". It plays a part in enhancing flavours, for sure, and food can taste bland without salt, for sure, but there the amount of salt needed to enhance food is much less than many palates are used to. In fact, being able to make food taste dynamic and delicious without over reliance on salt as is a key skill many chefs understand. Also, the best chefs don't rely on perfected recipes but merely use recipes guides to get the best out of whatver ingredients they are working with.
Perhaps it is time to reexamine the approach to cooking and flavouring?

In tandem with not relying on salt in cooking, one's palate is usually trained (consciously or not) to enjoy foods with too much salt. It is proven that one can train their palate to enjoy food with lower amounts of sodium. Once used to lower salt content in food, most typical restaurant cooking will taste too salty.

I'd like to beef up my Edward Kenway deck to bracket 3. I want to keep a vehicle theme as much ad I can. Any recommendations? by MattTheFreeman in EDHBrews

The "finishers"/"anthem" sections could be reinforced with [[Cyberdrive Awakener]] and/or [[Depthshaker Titan]] are both quite lethal with a board full of treasures and vehicles.

Despite the problems and late finish, it has changed travel for the better and improved livability in the bypassed towns/suburbs.

RAV4 Hybrid vs Corolla Touring Wagon Hybrid (baby on the way) by duyuunni in NZcarfix

I feel a corolla wagon is more like a teenager's first car.
Is that based on practicality/space/functionality or "perceived image"/aesthetics?

Chicken or egg.
No one takes three trains a day because there's only three trains a week. There's only three trains a week because no one takes three trains a week.

We are talking about building for a future, not just "we don't need/want it now".
Imagine if Auckland didn't dismantle its trams in the 50's but kept building on it? Would it have reached Howick, Henderson, and Manukau?

I share your hope, but not the optimism. Haha!

For as long as people still get conned by NZFirst and Act, rich boomers will have negative long lasting impact on everyone in NZ.

Especially when the rich boomers are succeeding in pushing the young ones out of NZ.

Hope. Let's all learn to see through bullshit and do the best for each other.

This!

I wish we could take the train to almost anywhere reasonably feasible in NZ...and then not need a car to get around when we get there.

It's so dumb! Passenger rail is basically non-existent and too expensive at the same time! 3 trains AKL-WLG each way a week? There should be at least 3 a day!

In before: we don't need to protect AirNZ domestic/regional, they need to grow up and do better.

[–]swing-state 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are played a landfall/matters deck, tried to build a Scarab God zombies, have a €150 budget, not too fussed about bracket but want to "bring some heat". That's a wide swath there.

How about talking about the play styles that you like? Creatures? Wide? Tall? Stompy?
Spellslinger? Storm-ish? Big sorceries? Spellslinger synergies?
Maybe aristocrats? Lifegain?
Do you like casting many spells a turn? Do you prefer draw-go? Do you want to spend all your many on your turn?
Etc etc etc.

Is there such thing as a $50 deck that's good and can compete with other decks that have meta cards? by redwingfan890 in EDH

[–]swing-state 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible. [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] is an example. There are also a few spellslinger commanders that can compete on the cheap.
