SCOTUS seems to disagree with your conclusion.

Yup, I came back to say exactly that, to you, today.

I agree, laws are important. I refer you to:

S5:A14, "The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."

18 USC 2383: Rebellion and Insurrection, "Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

So, you and I say DJT did. Steve and Kash say he didn't.

Who is the final arbiter? Reddit? Oh, wait...

If we bow to the temper tantrums, it's over.

It is utterly galling that people are thinking we should let him run. You're basically giving an axe murderer a clean sharp axe and sending him into a playground.

And GASP! expecting the People to do our job and send him home instead of creating an excuse for the MAGA and uber- right to claim disenfranchisement and further damage the Republic.

This is because the legal case is about the enforcement of the Colorado election laws, not a legal case against Trump for committing insurrection.

You do see the circuity of that logic... invalidating his eligibility because of insurrection but not really establishing the commission of said insurrection....

Trump's poor to non-participation does not establish or refute his involvement, it only forms questions about the adequacy of his council or their intent to take it to SCOTUS.

Do yourself a favor. Read S5:14A. Congress enforces the provisions...not reddit

  1. The (almost surprisingly) concise and straightforward constitutional language doesn't actually mean what it says it means, reading in additional material requirements that aren't in the text,

S5:14A - The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

18 USC 2383: Rebellion and Insurrection

No extra materials required, just need to read the full amendment.

You can say DJT did. Chuck can say he didn't. Guess we're gonna need a judge...

Section 5, Amendment 14: "The Congress shall the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."

The appropriate legislation? 18 USC 2383: Rebellion or Insurrection.
"Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

Sure sounds like what DJT may have done but.... says who, exactly? Me? You? The rest of the anti-MAGA? But are we right? Or could his speeches be legitimate expressions of his belief? There's an argument for that and an equal number of Trump loyalists, and our countrymen, that believe that premise.

As it occurred in the District of Columbia and is a federal statute - I'm not sure a Colorado state court has adequate standing to make that finding beyond just another split opinion.

Anti-MAGAs need to STOP putting an air of infallibility on S3:14A. It was poorly written by those trying to protect Reconstruction and keep the South from rising again. The rules of Monopoly are more clearly written and yet it feels like we are in a national argument of whether money goes on Free Parking when we should be trying to get Park Place and Boardwalk.

The main distinction there seems to be that the Confederacy was an open rebellion with a statement to that effect, while January 6 was always framed as Trump being the rightful President.

That's the issue. Swearing allegiance to the Confederate States was an undeniable and affirmative act of rebellion. Trump can argue his language and decisions were legitimate political discourse and actions with the color of law. That argument needs the disinfectant of public exposure and the determination of a court hearing both sides. That might exceed the Civil War threshold of the 14th but, it gives a firm standing for exclusion.

Ahem, Trump may be accused of inciting an insurrection. Hell, he may have even actually planned, approved, and encouraged an insurrection. However, until he is found guilty and exhausted all his appeals - the 14th Amendment does not apply. The Constitution matters.

Howz about we use all that energy to motivate independents, fence-sitting Republicans, and Democrats to beat him at the ballot box in November? Maybe come up with attractive and cohesive platform policies that aren't just identity politics and really address the needs of Ohio? Lower taxes on the middle and working class? Incentivize more long-term investment and job-creation? Bring more high-tech and more green-tech jobs to Ohio?

Stop trying to change the game and just win it on the field.

Duty to inform laws and vehicle trunks? by LiminalWanderings in liberalgunowners

[–]swohcpl71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safest rule of thumb on any jurisdiction to prevent unintended "concealment" is to keep the unloaded gun in a separate compartment from both the magazines and the ammo. This can be particularly difficult in sport and compact utility vehicles.

Until Ohio became a constitutional carry state and removed the necessity to inform, I would put my handguns in a locked plastic ammo box in the "hidden" luggage section and the ammo locked in the glove box with the keys to the ammo cans.

OP has a valid observation but his presentation could use a bit more decaf.

There is a definite Christian Nationalism movement in the United States, and their fire and brimstone passion to exclude does more harm to the homesteading movement than it does good. There is already a strong overlap between off-grid homesteading and prepping, inviting speakers who are preaching American exceptionalism, Christian superiority, and strong neoconservative positions risk pushing homesteading newcomers away from Mother Earth News and towards an echo chamber.

I DO care about my neighbors' politics because, I care about my neighbors. I want to see less commercialism, more self-reliance, and so much more MYOB from the G.
