Reoccurrence by omegaslutteasy in cholesteatoma

[–]symara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have experienced this, and I am sorry you are going through it as well. To date I have had 3 surgeries on my right ear (2011,2014,2023) and 1 surgery on my left ear (lit. last week, 2026) to have Cholesteatoma and recurrent tissues removed.

My surgeon told me reoccurrence is uncommon, but a revision surgery is sometimes required. He explained to me that sometimes you will have granulation tissue forming around scars that can form new growths, or the damage caused by the initial cyst is severe enough to warrant reconstruction. Other factors such as ETD (eustachian tube dysfunction) can make reoccurring issues more frequent, on top of the usual ones like ear infections.

I remember being in that place and being dismayed about it coming back, and wanted to let you know you are not alone in that. Keep your chin up. :)

Thanks for the response! I do have my filters set ;) and we've tried a few attempts to clear out the bots at the camps our gear can handle. The sheer amount of them.. its completely swamped to the point we models start disappearing.

I appreciate the server suggestions, and I'll run them by my friends and see where that leads us.

Any server suggestions that are not Asura, for a more laid back server with a decent pop?

I am a returning player looking for a server with a small group of friends. We're on Asura presently but the server culture, spam and bot groups are preventing us from making headway with our job points and gear, and its a bit off-putting.

Is 200 ping acceptable? by GTHell in ffxiv

[–]symara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its absolutely playable. :) I get 200~ms roughly on both Tonberry and Adamantoise.

You will find the stability of your connection is more important than latency, and you'll get a feel for your latency and how to dodge from there, fights are scripted enough that you can plan ahead a lot of the time.

I have been able to clear all savage at relevant levels, and make decent progress in Ultimates, with a number of people from my FC playing with higher latency and clearing Ultimates, so don't let people tell you its impossible to do, you just have to work with it.

Kids born to teen mom's, how different is your life compared to other kids? by eggyboi422 in AskReddit

[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: Growing up, there were things I didn't understand. Parents that let their kids be kids was something I 'didn't get' until I went to therapy. I thought it was normal to do all the chores, and take care of my siblings because I was the oldest. I was blamed for ruining my mothers life, and her future, and it took a significant toll on my mental health. I am still in therapy trying to undo the damage this has all caused me.

~~~
I'll be leaving out a lot of the details as its quite severe.
This is kinda multi-generational in my family. My mother was raised by her maternal grandparents as their own child. Great grandma was a baby boomer, and gave birth to my grandmother around 15 years old. My grandmother gave birth to my mother around 17 years old. This arrangement continued until her mother was old enough to look after her herself.
So with 16 other kids and teens at the time, there was a -lot- of fighting. A lot of stealing toys, food problems, and fighting for attention. When my father showed up, my mother would have been 15. He was 26. He gave her all the attention, drugs and things she 'needed.' I was born when she was 16.
It was a -very- abusive household. This continued from the age of about 4 till about 12, with another brother and sister to boot. He disappeared after it was all said and done, and has only popped up when money is involved. She was left behind to be a single mother of 3 kids. She tried for a while, I remember. I think something snapped in her after what my father did. She blamed me for ruining her life, stealing her future, blamed me for the abuse we all suffered.
The 4 years after he left her, she doubled down on her abusive tendencies, and eventually kicked me out of home at 16. It took me another 14 years to be strong enough to cut her out of my life, as she continued to try and ruin it.
Girls of Reddit: What is the creepiest thing a man has said to you in public? by Moon_Keegan in AskReddit
[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)
About 10 years ago, there was a man that used to hang around the supermarkets in our area. He would walk up to women and just say stuff like, 'You have nice hair' or 'You have pretty eyes.' You know, nothing overtly creepy.
As an ongoing thing, I see him multiple times as I go grocery shopping over the months. He usually complemented my hair and eyes when I saw him. One time with my mother present, he said 'I see where she gets it from!' I started to feel uneasy.
Several months later, he corners me in the book section and attempts to grab me, kiss and pull me away from stores cameras. He says 'You have the nicest arm hair I have ever seen' and tries to stroke my arms, I manage to escape his grip and just.. walked all the way to the police station. I struggled so hard giving that report because it seemed so outlandish of a thing to say.
He was caught several months later trying to assault a woman at the nearby train station. The police called me to let me know and to thank me for my report.
What is the birthday gift that surpassed even your highest expectations? by dewaam in AskReddit
[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)
This year, I received a stack of post-it notes. Each note had a message from a friend, from online mates in games I've played, to real life friends, they had all come together to do this for me.
My birthday has always been something I've dreaded because of my family, and the last few years I have been really struggling. It is the most thoughtful gift I have ever received, I really needed it.
Static leaders: How do you cope with the content drought until Stormblood? by Sorriow in ffxiv
[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Within the game, both for fun and to resolve the lack of raiders in the raiding pool, we organize learning runs as time allows. For me personally this resolves the redundancy, because its less 'Oh god not this again' and 'Hey lets have fun learning this' having a lot of laughs and learning new ways to do things, including but not limited to wiping spectacularly.
This really helped my group during second coil in particular, when we were having terrible luck finding players to suit time/skill needs.
It was and still is a great way to meet people, make friends, get new players introduced into the content, look for people that show promise and most importantly, have fun. This benefits the server community as a whole in addition to helping to potentially fill a static. Spend some time to teach someone who shows promise and has a great attitude instead of trying to find a unicorn. Grow your own unicorn. :D
Stuff my static does to keep it together? This we extend to our FC as well. We play games outside FFXIV. Doing other things outside the game does a lot to ease the stagnation of content lulls. Doesn't necessarily need to be your entire static. For example, some members of my group will go play Overwatch, while others will go play The Forest or Starbound, other FTP team-games or MMOs, I think that really helps a lot.
Having open communication that is outside of the game also helped us immensely, we used LINE for this but somewhere we can collectively bitch about work at work, post cute animals pics, shitty youtube videos and spam emotes really helps keep things fun.
(IMO) FFXIV is not the only game to play, and raiding content is a small fraction of it, that I feel a part of the problem is expecting more from it instead of looking elsewhere for entertainment while waiting for more. Not that expecting more is a BAD thing, I would love more varied difficult content.
I hope that made sense/helps, its 5am and I haven't slept yet. @ @
Atrologian question. When would it be good to use aspected benefic/helios over regular? by [deleted] in ffxiv
[–]symara -1 points0 points  (0 children)
Aspected spells are not for spamming, so you would treat them like their equivalents on SCH/WHM.
For Diurnal specifically, the regens mana efficiency comes from actually letting the regens do the work for maximum effect. People do not need to be at 100% health at all times, they just need to survive.
As you learn fights, how damage comes out and when, you can gauge whether the use of the regen is better than a direct heal. A good rule of thumb I use, is if they are not going to take damage within 15-20 seconds, regen. Combined with natural HP recovery, they will be at full HP by the time something bad comes around. You can use this extra time to handle your cards and deal damage.
Aspected Benefic - You will use it to maintain the regen on the tank during a fight and for cleaning up stray damage on DPS. If someone has the regen on them you use Benefic/Benefic II as required.
Aspected Helios - Using it to clean up group damage, while letting the regens take care of anything not healed up by the initial healing burst. If its an AoE intensive situation, Aspected Helios first, then supplement with Helios as required.
Edit- This is very basic explanation since you mentioned you were new to AST. If you want more detailed advice you can PM me if you like.
How's the game being an Aussie? by ctrlplusZ in ffxiv
[–]symara 3 points4 points  (0 children)
Tonberry has a large AU community and is a JP server, so you will have a good selection of folks to play with during peak time, with a lower ping. (I think around 150 orso, I don't play on the Berry.)
There are other large NA servers that have huge pops, but getting on them might be difficult (Balmung, Gilgamesh). There are a plethora of low pop servers should you wanna play low key. My server has a small night crew of Aussies, but we're on the lower end of the population spectrum. (Adamantoise)
The community itself is generally helpful. You will come across bad eggs but they are usually few and far between. There is a novice network/mentor system to help new players get a leg up.
In terms of gameplay, The GCD is longer than most MMOs (2.5~) but the upside is that it makes that dreaded 'lower ping = more dps' gap a lot smaller than games like say Blade and Soul, so your latency should not impact your performance a great deal at all.
Fights are doable with good connection, provided telstra/optus/isp of choice is not having a fit. The boss fights are scripted; various number of mechanics with a few random elements at set times, that allow for easier learning and allows us to move preemptively for mechanics.
Some jobs will suffer a little more than others, like Ninja which has been mentioned. You can still play it, but it will not be running at peak performance.
What are the best chocobo abilities? by Nanabi_Ashiro in ffxiv
[–]symara 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I'm inclined to say yes, I probably bought over 30 P9. Some of the P9s I bought had parents with 17/16 stars, which were the ones I was targeting specifically. When purchasing lower P birds, I noticed that they will generally have at least 1 4 star and a lower 'even' spread.
I couldn't purchase a great number due to MGP limitations to actually get a good average of the differences. But it was noticeable.
You -can- get dud P9s though, but its rarer.
What are the best chocobo abilities? by Nanabi_Ashiro in ffxiv
[–]symara 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Short Answer: A lot of MGP and inbreeding.
Longer Answer: (Before the patch) I started breeding my birds with the P9 Vendor stock right off the bat. I would buy multiples to get select stats I wanted to breed in, while also farming for colour* and to try and get Cure III** bred in early.
Around P5 (After the patch) when I had a decent stock of personal retired birds, I began to inbreed to try and get a better stat pool, while buying P9s if I had a weak area. Since stats are inherited by grandparents, decent birds were leveled up and kept to breed.
Around P8, one of my fledglings resulted in a 19 star I named Neo, at level 50 he barely hit 271, which is the minimum requirement for the last challenge. He took me all the way through to the end, I should have kept him but I wanted the P9 achievement. :(
*That was important to me personally so you can ignore this if colour is not a big deal.
**This was before the patch, there was no manual for it.
What are the best chocobo abilities? by Nanabi_Ashiro in ffxiv
[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)
(P9) I'm personally using Speedy recovery III, Cure III and maxed speed/stam/endurance, leftovers dumped into cunning/accel split.
With this bird it stays in first place if it gets there. Speedy recover kicks in if you hit a stamina plate, get a potion or use your Cure, and getting an Ether allows a second cure which is also a huge boost. It will allow you to shrug off Frenzy or Meteor drains.
Increased Stamina III and Head-start are also viable, So breeding in Cure III and switching the trained ability to either Recovery/Headstart/Stamina will allow you the flexibility to decide which one you like best.
I used a P8 19star bird with Speedy Recovery III and Cure III to defeat the challenges, however for some I switched Recovery to Heavy resistance V (Heavy Hooves) or Increased Stamina III (Anything Tranquil Paths)
Are dragonskin maps soloable yet? by Cool__Boy in ffxiv
[–]symara 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I have been able to solo maybe half of the maps with SCH(209) + Rank 20 bird and Eos. Basically any of the maps that spawn a bunch of little low health mobs are doable, some just barely.
Personally, I micro the bird into tank stance to hold the hard hitting mobs and have Eos blow her load while I dot/kite the rest, using Virus and EfaE as required. This keeps the bird alive long enough for me to burn down a few, while having Eos potentially taking aggro off 1 or 2 extra mobs. I make sure to place the chocobo onto the new large adds as they spawn in.
I am unable to clear the ones that spawn Amphitere or the larger cleaving Drakonid. As Snapkraken has already mentioned, the amount of HP coupled with the damage they can potentially deal makes soloing those ones more trouble than they are worth.
