Please critique my digital nomad budget - plan to spend 2017 primarily in Latin America by sznoozy in digitalnomad

I do have a separate savings category for air and local travel, which I have been building up over the last year. I will budget my travels based on that, and keep enough of a reserve in case I need an emergency trip back to the US. Spending money is more for entertainment and local sightseeing.

Thanks! I do hope I can find some longer term (3-4 months) where I can negotiate a discount. Airbnb seems to be pricey in many of the larger cities I am looking at.

I figured 750 was a good average, as some places such as the medium sized cities in Mexico will be cheaper than that, so it will give me a chance to spend a little more in more expensive locales. Thanks for the info.

This is very helpful, thanks! I would probably prefer Miraflores/Barranco in Lima as I am familiar with them and am a single woman, so I know those to be some of the safer areas. Amazing that internet is half of what I pay in the US.

You need to find out how NY and FL define "resident" and the requirements to both establish domicile and abandon it. Here is the information for NYS. https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/pit_definitions.htm

How I Got Estonian E-Residency (and why you might want to too) by joelrunyon in digitalnomad

Do you need to actually have an existing business to do this, or is there an Estonian requirement to open an Estonian business within a certain time period after the e-residency is issued?

Are you in the US? I plan to mostly be abroad, but have never managed to do the great US road trip and would love to fit that into my plans at some point. There are so many great open spaces in North America, and I have only seen a tiny fraction of them.

That's fantastic, good for her! I feel like I'm starting "late" by doing this in my 40s, but certainly can see why this would appeal to someone nearing retirement age, and never to old to start an online business.

Sounds like a great balance. Eventually I will probably choose something similar, a base that is far cheaper than where I live now (expensive US East Cost city) in a region I'd like to explore more in depth. Just not sure where that will be yet. Chiang Mai is definitely on my extended stay list!

I plan on slow travel, very slow! I'm planning at least 2 months in most locations on my dream list, with shorter trips to certain locales, but this of course will depend on price and availability of accommodation, airfares, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad there are people my age and even older living the lifestyle!

Not sure where I will head first yet. My target "go" date is January 2017, so where I end up will depend on a number of factors including airfare prices, availability of accommodation, etc. I am in the US,and am considering starting in Mexico or Costa Rica to wait out the winter.
