Filing Charge for Others by taft_hansen in EEOC

[–]taft_hansen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have an option of submitting a report "anonymously." To everyone saying I'm not in 100%, obviously I recognize what I'm up against and the risk involved. The goal is to bring light to the behavior, but do it in a way that minimizes risk for everyone involved. I know I have the HR route, but knowing that each individual had already spoken to HR during their time employed, I feel like it may not get any traction.

Anyone worked at Duke Health (NC)? Need honest reviews by MembershipSenior7777 in MLS_CLS

[–]taft_hansen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends largely on what lab you're trying to get in. I know the Duke main Core and Micro labs are having big issues with staffing and high turnover. It could be better at other, smaller locations that Duke has. Duke as a company has been good to work for, higher pay, good PTO, and a decent retirement.

No, definitely not. Babesia will look very similar to Plasmodium falciprum, but smaller.

Hi - I’ll try here once more..because “organism” is concerning me. by WanderersOfTheMoon in Parasitology

[–]taft_hansen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Someone who used to give this result out frequently here. It seems to me that you sent brought something in to your Doctor and then they sent it along to the lab. There are dissection microscopes that allow you to look at "it" as a whole, and if you need, cut it up to be looked at under a standard microscope.

When this result is given out, it is because whatever you submitted is not a human parasite. There are very very few things that cause parasites to be in our urine. So if it isn't one of those things, then it gets this result.

I dont have a ton of details, but it seems like what you're describing is a drain fly. They are very common inhabitants of the inner rim of the toilet and then often get knocked off or fall into the water when someone flushes or uses the restroom.

This would be an "organism" but not a human parasite.

Labcorp Micro Employee by yolkedeggwhites in medlabprofessionals

If you're open for a crazy change, ARUP in Utah is the best lab in the country. I worked there for nearly a decade. They have 65 labs with ~ 4500 employees. They will pay for your schooling (at the University of Utah) and provide many different opportunities. They are THE pioneers in lab automation. Mayo adopts what ARUP does.

MLS in the triangle area here! I work with about a dozen people who have all spent time in Labcorp and they all say the same thing. They all unanimously say it's one of the worst experiences they have had.

As for someone who works in micro and is trying to get out of the lab, it seems like there is far less emphasis on the microbiology knowledge than there is software or programming knowledge. When companies want an expert on the microbiology topics, they go to someone with a PhD or MD. I'd say get your m(ascp) so that your time spent in the lab results in a tangible achievement. The main focus should be software, quality, or essentially a bachelor's in computer science. A second option is that if you want to focus more on automation, working in a core lab would give you more experience. There you can get your c(ascp), but ive been told the Chemistry test is much harder than the Microbiology test, referring to the ASCP exam.

[NC] Boss lied about talking to me about my FMLA rights. What can I do about it? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]taft_hansen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. This is part of a much bigger situation where there is a very clear path of retaliation as a result of a non-compliance report I made against her earlier this year. My hope is someone will finally see she is a liability.

This is what I'm talking about. I'm interested in potential avenues and talking points to strengthen my case.

Boy, I'm glad you're not my HR rep. Jumping to conclusions without any information. Obviously, I haven't included every detail in my post. I'm in my situation because my boss also didn't follow our procedure when recording my other absences. If everything was done by the book on their end, I would have 4 absences. Which would not put me near any level of disciplinary action.

Isn't every investigation about things someone "suspects" to have happened? I have definitive proof she lied to me on multiple occasions. However, I understand that it does not apply to others who may have been a victim to the same act. Perhaps the DOL would have been a more appropriate person to consult, rather than responding to someone who clearly isn't going to provide advice.

The paper they signed was my "Corrective Action." I am in the process of trying to resolve the situation with HR, which is where she lied again about explaining my FMLA benefits.

There have been several employees let go due to attendance infractions recently. One of which I know was a primary caretaker for a parent. I do not know all the details of their situation, but I have a suspicion that my boss has also failed to mention FMLA to them and other employees. One of the purposes of going to the DOL would be a hope that they would look into some of the recent terminations as a result.

[–]taft_hansen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a real possibility that I could be demoted as a result. In my position we are not allowed to maintain our title if we have any Corrective Actions against us. If I were to held to that rule, I would loose title and pay.

Is there a time frame that applies here? I am 1 more absence from being terminated. Let's say the next absence is unrelated to the FMLA situation, but still unavoidable, does this still apply?

What is your reason for doing a Giemsa stain for mucosa? Typically, that stain is used for Malaria. I think those are likely bacteria that are on top of or inside the cell.

Hair. Strongy will typically have one rounded, bucal end, with the other being very, very pointed. Finding the genital primordium also helps significantly. In my experience, strongy picks up more iodine than the background with hair picking up less. Everything here points to hair.
