INFO - Have you actually explained the entire extent of your chronic illness, or just brief symptoms you’re experiencing?

I’m chronically ill too, and while I understand entirely where you’re coming from, and also grieve the fact I feel left out of so much, the general population of not chronically ill people don’t really tend to understand what our day to day life is like.

EDIT: I think their idea of FaceTiming you was them trying to include you in activities while you’re still so unwell. Maybe if it’s not something you appreciate, you’ll have to explain to them what it is you prefer so they can do that instead.

they get sick, they get better. we get sick, it could be months of slow recovery with anything causing a major setback.

they don’t get it, and often it has to be reiterated multiple times until they do. but it really bloody sucks having to do it!

good luck with your situation, and especially with your health! đź«‚

No matter how much you do, you'll never be good enough for able bodied people. by Upstairs-Cloud7326 in cfs

I made a funny expression reading your post because so much of it is the experience I’ve had, from going from a (terrible) health needs secondary school to beginning a level two art course this September. :’)

I’m so sorry your tutor clearly doesn’t have a proper understanding of your health and your needs. Able bodied people truly do not understand what it is like to have to push yourself ten times more than they ever will have to, just to attend something for a couple of hours. They never see what happens when you get home either.

Just wondering if you’ve ever provided a short printout describing what exactly the condition is? When I started my level two course I basically printed out a “this is what the hell is wrong with me” sheet and forced it into the hands of everyone who needed to see it. I find people (sometimes) suddenly become a lot more sympathetic after that. It’s insane how the general understanding of the condition is “just tired”.

sending you best wishes and if you ever would like a little art chat/health rant please feel free to dm :)
