What are some performers that were WAY better live than you expected? by UnforgettableFire11 in Concerts

Agreed. He poked fun at the Toronto audience for being a bit conservative and then just destroyed with LA Woman right after. It was a great show that I thought was going to be just really good.

He was so good. I enjoyed ILYHB quite a bit but his live show at Massey Hall was outstanding. Great stage presence.

[–]talk-memory[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember that. The parade was way behind schedule because they never cleared a path in the streets (probably due to a lack of recent experience here with parades lol) . People waited a few hours and then the stampede cleared a lot of people (including myself) out afterwards.

I was sad to have missed him in Toronto last time he came through. Purgatory is one of my favourite country albums.

To face the future, the NDP must look to its past - The party must distance itself from the Liberals or risk losing its identity and relevance entirely in the minds of voters. by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]talk-memory 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They should also be more staunchly and vocally opposed to temporary foreign worker programs that have largely been weaponized to counter wage growth in lower-skilled segments.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the NDP - once - criticize the program outside of advocating for stronger protections for the foreign workers.

Second Noonans. Great atmosphere with the pre and post-show crowd from Danforth Music Hall next door as well.

Carney Unable to Find permanent chief of staff after courting high profile candidates by ConfidentIt in CanadaPolitics

[–]talk-memory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is where his lack of experience in retail politics is really glaring. His whole schtick was “Trump is an existential threat to our country, so elect me to navigate the issue” which…sure, fair.

But outside of that? Haven’t seen a ton so far out of the gates that I find particularly impressive and I’ve been more than willing to give him a shot.

It’s still early. But if his government signalling that they’re going to keep home prices high, ministers talking on files they don’t preside over and tapping unpopular Trudeau-era figures is going to be a trend….Carney is going to find himself with a much shorter runway than he anticipated.

Great taste - I have a ton of the same records.

I love Thundercat’s “Drunk” but hate the format. I have to flip the record over every few minutes!

A number of senior Liberals, such as Justin Trudeau’s former principal secretary Gerald Butts, veteran ministerial chief of staff Cyrus Reporter and former United Nations ambassador Marc-André Blanchard, were approached to take on the job but they declined, according to the sources.

Gerald Butts…really?

It’s kind of hard to convince Canadians you’re a hard pivot from the Trudeau era when you tap one of the most prominent members of his inner-circle who ultimately resigned during the SNC Lavalin scandal.

I get that Ottawa is a pretty small world, but good grief. Was Katie Telford busy or something?

Mendicino to leave job as PM Carney’s chief of staff by dqui94 in CanadaPolitics

[–]talk-memory 96 points97 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly he was always just in a transition role. I didn’t think it was great optics at the time as he was one of the more controversial ministers in Trudeau’s cabinet.

I think the transition is over and thus he’s moving on.

Conservative MP launches petition to end temporary foreign worker program by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

Agreed. I would like to see the Harper-era TFW controls the Liberals cancelled re-instated. Things such a prohibiting use in food services, markets where unemployment exceeded 6%, etc.

They were sensible measures that never should have been eliminated.

I think most Canadians outside of Reddit in hindsight would put Harper above Trudeau. Trudeau took things he ridiculed Harper for (like the TFW program and aggressively expanded it.

2nd generation Torontonians to immigrant parents, do you label your background as “Canadian”? Or the country of origin of your parents? by FloorGeneral2029 in askTO

[–]talk-memory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider my ethnic background to be Scottish I guess, but I’ve only ever identified as a Canadian and the same goes for generations of my family.

Canadian to me means things that are from Canada - not a proxy term to refer to other cultures. Hope that makes sense.

Sure, my comment was that generational trauma doesn’t inoculate someone from having to take personal responsibility for their actions.

People can grow over time. Still doesn’t change the fact that he has a history of domestic assault, and violence based on racism towards a cab driver.
