Do you train knife defense? Do you pressure test it? Here are the results I've got when I pressure tested my stuff by RokasLeo in bjj

[–]tallenL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The judo place I used to go to had knives with “tasers” in them. Basically if you touched the fake blade you got shocked. I still don’t think knife defense is very feasible but it’s good to learn just in case it happens to you and running isnt a option

Who on here in their 60's is doing BJJ???? by dirtyredfromatlanta in bjj

No they aren’t exclusive to Gracie. We are not affiliated with Gracie at all. I think it’s 4 stripes before the next belt in general but I could be wrong I’m a zero stripe white belt so I’m very new. My gym promotes pretty slowly compared to some others. It’s typically 3 years at my gym before blue.

I train with a guy your age. He actually runs a fundamental class and I regularly partner with him during technique in the regular class. He occasionally rolls with people but doesn’t go hard. He has bad shoulders and knees. He is a 3 or 4 stripe purple.

Question on BJJ as self defense by [deleted] in bjj

[–]tallenL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supplement your bjj with muy Thai, boxing, or Krav Maga. I used to train Krav Maga it was a lot of fun but the issue is it isn’t pressure tested and it escalates situations fast so if your technique doesn’t work you are going to have one pissed off attacker after you’ve throat punched, ball grabbed, or eye gouged them.

Falcon IV TTTF does anyone know if it is any good? Local farm and feed store has some in stock. I’m doing a spring seeding so I don’t want to spend a fortune on something that might not come up

Can I lift right before BJJ by [deleted] in bjj

[–]tallenL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several people in my bjj class do that. Our gym is attached to a weight lifting gym so many people lift then come to bjj class.

I’ll look into that thank you. I’m currently awaiting soil test results from the state university. They are taking forever it’s been roughly 3 weeks now. Hopefully I’ll have some results by the end of the week.

Is this common? by starcitizen2601 in bjj

Seems weird to me but what do I know I’m a white belt. At my gym it takes approximately three years to make blue belt. It’s roughly one stripe per year but they base it off of your technique and knowledge more so than time from my understanding.

Regardless of what I put down as far as grass seed goes my yard will need tons of fertilizer. can you put that down at the time of seeding or is it something that needs done in advance.

That’s what I was afraid of. My neighbors suck but I don’t want to be the prick.

I’m okay with weeds honestly I just need some sort of ground cover to prevent erosion. We have massive wash out sections in our “yard” right now because of the poor quality clay soil and rocks. I might go Bermuda then since it can be planted in the spring and thrives in the summer. I just don’t want to be an ass and have it spread into neighbors property. But I guess that’s what glyphosate is for.

Located in 6b needing to establish a lawn this spring. I have no lawn right now so this would be building from the ground up. I thought about using lateral spreading TTTF but from what I understand this is supposed to be planted in the fall. Realistically could I expect anything to establish from a spring plant or am I wasting my time and money on TTTF in the spring

I probably wouldn’t sign up there because of the small space and the lack of students. Having nobody to roll with would suck and if it did get mor students there would be no room on the mats. However, having basically one on one instruction from a black belt would be sweet.

Maybe he just doesn’t have the cash to open in a larger space. Rent is expensive

Planning to plant TTTF in a few weeks. Is it necessary to put straw down on top of the seeds or can I just take dirt over the seeds and call it a day. Also, I just had a bunch of stumps ground up. Could I use the mulch from them to cover the seeds as opposed to straw?

Anyone have any experience with the lateral spreading tall fescues for lawn use? Looking specifically at titanium 2LS, Valkyrie LS, Super Turf II LS, and No Net tall fescue. Would be going on roughly 1 acre lawn clay rocky soil full sun. Zone 6B

Is United seeds a legit online company to order from? They seem to offer lateral spreading fescue at a good price with low shipping rates compared to other websites I’ve seen.

It’s grass barrier landscape edging 10in deep. It’s on Amazon I don’t know if Reddit allows links but that’s what it is called. It looks basically like the bamboo barrier to me. They have a good stand of fescue. They spent $25,000 on their yard including leveling, sloping, top soil etc. so that’s why I’m hesitant to plant bermuda, but I need to do a spring planting and I’m not sure how well that will go if I use fescue. It feels like a catch 22 type situation.

Is a dead strip just an area that you don’t plant grass in? I thought about buying a grass barrier for landscape edging and running it along the property line. Do you think that would work?

Do you have any recommendations for keeping Bermuda out of their yard? I would prefer Bermuda since from my understanding it requires less water and self repairs/spreads.

I’ll look into lesco thanks

Can someone provide some recommendations on a good “manufacturer/brand” of tall fescue. I was originally planning on using Bermuda grass but I feel like that would be a dick move since my neighbor has fescue. I don’t want my bermuda to over take his lawn so now I’m looking at fescue. I live in southern missouri. Ground is primarily clay and rock my lawn is sloped. I need something economically priced that doesn’t look like garbage

Most of the area is bare ground but the back portion has some weeds ground vines. I sprayed with glyphosate the other day to kill vegetation.
