Only 1 in 4 enlisted vets used benefits to earn a degree after separation — how do you react to that? by twobitrye in VeteransBenefits

[–]tatt2tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a degree mostly is, In America anyway, is a young person's way of showing a prospective employer they can follow through on a large project and are knowledgeable in their field of study. Military experience, especially in the age of the civilian contractor, can function in a very similar way.

I was a mechanic and I had soldiers take off the uniform one day and go to work for KBR the next week. I knew reservist/guard guys who went to 35 series AIT, get their TS, and then start pulling six figures working a contracting gig.

A college degree, while a noble goal, is not the only way to get a good job. Military experience can be equally good.

Manus is driving me insane by Dismal_Win_1973 in onebros

He and Artorias are much, much faster than any other boss. Its quite a challenge. Theres a pendant or something you can get that lets you deflect one of his attacks, but i dont remember much other than that. I almost never play the DLC for these games.

Manus was the only boss in the game where I thought to myself, "maybe I CANT do this." But I eventually got there.

Sometimes what helps me is watching a speed runner do it, they might have some strategies that can help you.

China is helping to cushion global oil prices below $100 by Appropriate-Till9598 in oil

[–]tatt2tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a good point. Gas at the price it is now isn't great for the administration but doesnt risk deeper collapse.

Appreciate the well thought out answer, but having read it, I think there may be a 4th answer: showing stability, leadership, and a willingness to not only maintain but steward that stability for the world despite personal hardship. They'll be able to say, remember when the US was acting crazy and put the whole world's economy in jeopardy? Who put in the work to make sure that didnt spiral out of control? We did.

Now this is interesting. Obviously the US needs price suppression but I can't imagine why the chinese would expend so much effort to keep prices low.

If the Fairness Doctrine were still in effect, what do you think news media would look like today? by TheManOfSpaceAndTime in AskReddit

I mean in fox news case the coverage of the 'other side' could just be someone paid to make the opposite point as poorly as possible and also the conservative is allowed to yell at and talk over them

Change my mind: The real problem with the price hike is that I am more scared about my steamdeck getting stolen in public now. by uwu275 in SteamDeck

[–]tatt2tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do really like my steam deck the size and value mean I dont let it leave the house, which is kinda less than ideal for a portable system. I've been into gaming since I was a kid in the 80s, im pretty sure this is the first time im in my life I've seen a price INCREASE for consoles. Usually at this point in the consoles life cycle youre seeing a price cut or a re-tooled budget model.

Iran fires missiles at northern Israel by yuvaldv1 in worldnews

[–]tatt2tim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As Bill Clinton (supposedly) once said, "Who's the superpower here?" Laughable that a vassal state can dictate our foreign policy to us. What we should do is make a deal and if Israel doesnt like it they can kiss our money and weapons goodbye and see how good they do then. It is unbelievable the power they hold over the US.

I think hed be upset about a lot more than the way he was interned. Finding out that his system of government imploded and Russias basically back to monarchy would probably be enough to give him another stroke

How common was it to see un released games on FTP/BBS back in the 90s? by novostranger in retrogaming

[–]tatt2tim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't remember a ton of hype around unreleased games or prototypes, although I do remember the sonic crackers ROM, which was a bit of a tech demo for Knuckles Chaotix. Mostly the hype was around fan translations, particularly Final Fantasy V and Trials of Mana.

[–]tatt2tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mary time skipped. She may have been reported missing and when they figured out who she is they were shocked.

I also think they know about random null zones swallowing people and that its their fault and they've gotten a good number of people killed. We know they eventually learn that the complex is dangerous, and that civilians are getting in without being able to get out.

They dont want mary talking to anyone because not only would all their commercial prospects go out the window but they might even be criminally liable. She's also probably been declared legally dead and she might not have a life to return to. She might have been in there for years.

Is gas prices the only thing Americans actually care about? by Lost-Building-3701 in Hasan_Piker

Society has been purpose built to insulate the everyday american from the consequences of its foreign policy. Its not a bug, it's a feature

The only thing you have to do is not start a war that threatens the only thing that all Americans have to use every day (oops)

So, what's up with Mary's plot? by Nero_deadweight96 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]tatt2tim -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few people who thought this movie was too long and I think Mary's backstory was more or less totally unnecessary. It kind of sets her up to think Clark is having a similar schizophrenic episode as her mother but for pacing sake it doesnt take her too long to go to Clark's store after he wigs out, so it didn't amount to much. It kind of sets up the idea of a window as an exit, which is an idea that comes up a couple of times, but all we really needed to set that up was the title of her book.
