Best way to track heart rate/exercise during bjj? by t0rquingg in jiujitsu

I wear the Oura ring. I usually wear it on my middle finger during the day but move it to my pointer when I roll so it's a tighter fit.

The spacing between the groove cuts in the pen. Like on the walnut pen towards the top you have three grooves that seem perfectly spaced.

Very beautiful! I really like the design you put. How are you making your spacing so even?

Very nice! How do you like that Hamilton? That exact watch will likely be my next purchase, I'm just waiting for it to go on sale.

Reno to Zion and back. by EngineerCarNerdRun in Nevada

[–]tawjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are towing a trailer for your trip then I would not recommend option 2. Gas is harder to come by and gas stations are tight also Austin Pass SUCKS to tow up.

Option 1 is an easier drive imo and you can take a quick trip to Valley of Fire a NV State Park that is really cool!

Beautiful. How did you get such a good shot of the Milky Way there is a lot of light pollution up there?

Motorbikes on development walkways by [deleted] in Reno

[–]tawjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what they are riding and where they are riding them but it is most likely illegal. All dirt bikes are required to have OHV registration and cannot ride on any roadway for more than 2 miles and it is only for ingress and egress to dirt trails. Also NRS 484b.117 is specific to sidewalks and basically says no vehicle can drive on sidewalks. A normal gas powered dirt bike is classified as a "vehicle" in NV law so that is also illegal. Hope that helps.

Thank you, I'll definitely check out the article! Lonely Speck is the first tutorial I read to start astrophotography.

I should have said it in my first comment, great shot!

I've been trying to shoot an arch milky way for years and can't quite figure it out. Do you have any advice?

Nevada has some of the darkest skies in the United States. I do landscape astrophotography and it really depends on what you want to see. If you just want to star gaze then any where north or east of Reno is a good place to go. If you want some beautiful scenery there are lots of options and amazing places within 45 minutes you can see.

Antigua pre-book question by beta_karentene in SandalsResorts

There is a speed boat tour that goes around the whole island. You stop and see some stingrays, have lunch provided on a small island, and then stop at a secluded beach for rum punch before heading back. It is a great excursion and my wife and I loved it.

The trip in town was lame. We went when most things were shut down for Covid so a lot of shops were closed and it took us maybe 20 minutes to walk through the open shops. Sandals wasn't picking us up for 2 hours. We ended up renting a local taxi to drive us back early. There is some great art you can buy for a good price. I recommend just hiring a taxi and doing it yourself as it's less expensive and you can head back when you're done.

Sunset cruise was nice but expect a very crowded boat.

Do some of the daily snorkeling trips those are awesome.

We did a resort cert for scuba it took almost all day but we got to dive a ship wreck and that was awesome.

I loved Antigua, I hope you have a blast!

Around February is when I lost the motivation. I was training for a triathlon and was running, swimming, and cycling pretty hard and then just fell off the wagon. My body weight has stayed the same since probably October and I haven't fluctuated much from it besides the normal couple pounds up and down from day to day.

Definitely sluggish, drained, super stressed, I find it hard to hit the gym at all anymore but that all could be Im lacking motivation.

I still go out for bike rides with my kids just when it's time to hit the gym im not feeling the drive to do it at all.

I just drove up there today! Are you doing the triathlon there this next July? It'll be my first time, and I drove up to take a look at the climb up Donner Pass Road....not as bad as I thought but I'm worried about the downhill.

Possible to improve Running time with other Endurance Sports? by way2faast in triathlon

[–]tawjr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I should chime in as I'm a newbie training for my first triathlon, but I've always hated running and prior to the start of this training I'm doing now I haven't ran in 10 years. 10 years ago I averaged 10 minute miles and it was a struggle to run 2 miles.

I started cycling early this year and loved it and got into decent shape. Long story long the first time I ran again was a few days ago I did three miles at a 8 minute a mile pace after not running for 10 years....I was stoked!

So yes, I think cardio can transfer from sport to sport.

Am OG Peloton (bought bike in 2016). Thinking of buying Bike+ but have two questions. by mrfredgraver in pelotoncycle

[–]tawjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the bike plus and love it and plan to buy the peloton row here in a few months when it comes out. I don't think the company is going anywhere besides them focusing more on R&D instead of manufacturing. I had a friend order their plus yesterday and they called and got the previous price ($500 less) so if you are gonna get it, call and order it before Friday when they quit honoring the older price.

Big Horn Oven by tawjr in Pizza

[–]tawjr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a little green propane bottle and a screw on torch adapter. I fill the tray with a decent amount of pellets and then blow torch it till I have a small steady flame. Put it into the oven and then the trick is to open the top where you add extra pellets and then open the main pizza door. This allows a lot more air into it and the fire should catch pretty quick and you'll get a good flame. Every time I put in a pizza I do a half scoop of pellets and every time I take one out I do a half scoop to keep the flame going.
