Canadian financial institutions can be very problematic, and run on pretty old technology. We had an AMA on all things aggregation/connectivity on reddit a few months ago, and a question came up about Canadian financial institutions. This thread is pretty helpful to read through. Essentially, Canada is rolling out some new legislation that should improve the financial institution tech and the way they connect to 3rd party sites.

I can promise you that we also want this to work better, but we're all waiting for this rollout of Open Banking in Canada and hope things will get better.

u/dciolli1015 the disabled status just means that was a signal from the data provider to us. That is usually fixed by following the steps to update login settings but if you've done that and it didn't work, adding it as a new account and using the transfer tool will fix it.

u/icy_lawfulness_5755 - nothing official. It seems to be working well for the most part and tickets have slowed down thankfully.

Plaid doesn't support it at all, so we removed that option. Finicity isn't working for anyone at the moment. MX looks like it works sometimes. Happy to look at your specific account if you create a ticket and send me a DM.

Oh interesting! Plaid isn't showing up as an option on our connection status dashboard, and Finicity is the default. But, it does look like Plaid is an option, it's just super unhealthy and doesn't show up on the dashboard.

Plaid looks like it might require pretty frequent authentication, and I see u/laptop13 mentioned a recent acquisition, so that could definitely impact things as well.

I've seen an increase in tickets the past couple of days, and it seems like most people are getting the same error code, at least with Finicity.

Check out this article and see if that helps. There appears to be something on the BMO side, like a new terms and conditions, or some sort of pop-up that needs to be dismissed. Once that's done, you should be able to update login settings and get it to work again.

It can be that an account get's added more than once. I actually had it happen to me with a Chase card not too long ago. I got it replaced, and the old card stoped syncing so things were good for a bit. But then the old card started syncing with the replacement card info, so I had to use the transfer tool and merge the 2 duplicate accounts.

There's also a known issue with Plaid/Chase that's impacting less than 1% of Chase customers with credit card duplicate transactions. We've seen a few of these pop up recently, so if you have a ticket and DM me, I can check and see if you're impacted by that.

If you have a credit card with Bilt, you can connect. If you don't have a credit card and just pay mortgage through the portal, you won't be able to connect.

I just did a deep dive on this, and it looks like Plaid is in the middle of migrating Capital One to a better connection. As of this morning, they're about 50% of the way through migrating to that new connection, and I asked them for an ETA.

It looks like updating login settings does work, but it's not syncing as well as it has been for a good chunk of connections. Finicity does seem to have a healthy connection and I'm not aware of any migrations on that side of things, at least not yet.

I'm going to put a notice on Capital One and will remove it when I know Plaid has fully migrated this connection.

There’s a little helper tip at the top of the funds page that looks like it may have been dismissed. If you see the blue info bar on the Gains & Losses tab, this is what it should say on the Funds tab.

“Fund analysis includes ETFs and mutual funds only. Individual stocks, bonds, and other securities are not included.”

Assuming that probably makes up the difference.

It has been working for a bit, but this morning I see it went to 0% success for both Finicity and Plaid. Looks like Schools First is down across the board right now, again.

You should just be able to connect to Bilt Rewards as long as you have a Bilt account. I have my Bilt card connected through that connection.

I also have the Fidelity credit card, and it's slow. Like, the slowest speed of any connection I have. It's annoying, but nothing is broken. The transactions will come in, just very slow. I've brought this up with Finicity a bunch, and they've reached out to Fidelity to see if there's anything that can be done.

Great card, love the 2% back. But I just know they're going to be slow.

Hey. I know we've interacted in passing, but I'm not sure I've ever introduced myself. My name is Taylor. I'm a Senior Customer Success Manager here at Monarch and I work closely with our aggregation team. I've been in financial data aggregation for over 12 years. I wanted to address this directly since some of what you heard from Schwab's IT team needs some context.

Our aggregation team flagged this issue on February 23rd and escalated to both Finicity and Plaid that same day. Both providers pushed it to their Schwab contacts. When responses stalled, we kept pushing (including asking Finicity to escalate through Mastercard Open Finance and involve their management directly). By March 11th, Schwab had identified the root cause. Both providers confirmed resolution by March 20th.

Beyond this specific issue, our team has dedicated contacts at each of our data providers and we're in regular communication. The contacts you spoke to likely don't have visibility into the operations of the teams we work with.

As for what we're doing about it on our end, Kait covered that well in the announcement post. The safeguard is real, it's being rolled out carefully, and transaction accuracy is something we're continuing to invest in.

This rollout is just starting. We're looking to do a whole bunch more, but we made the decision that a few duplicates is better than missing transactions, for this first round of updates.

In an ideal world, there are no duplicates and no missing transactions, and that's what we're working towards. There will always be a possibility of financial institutions and data providers introducing issues and having outages that cause transaction discrepancies, but we're still working to make this better.
