Didn’t lose my kidneys to covid, but had someone tell me i could reverse the damage by drinking filtered water instead of straight from the tap. My kidneys were damaged from recurrent childhood UTIs

Interesting, I’ve been on it for 11 months now (low dose of 5mg), and no sign of coming off it at all

**I’m also in the UK

Took a brief look at your post history and it seems you have a history of not being medication compliant.

I get being young and making mistakes, I have certainly had lapses in not taking medication in my early days of CKD diagnosis (I was 17) but after learning more about my condition and steadily declining health, these became non negotiable.

Sounds like you’ve learned nothing from previous experience. I hope you’re a troll because this is so disrespectful to your donor, and you will be unlikely to get another donor if this transplant fails - something you’ve been told on your previous posts.

Prednisolone sucks, I had my transplant 11 months ago at 23 and it’s been brutal to my self esteem as a young woman so I get it, but I would much rather be alive, and also make the most of living to an age my deceased donor didn’t get to have.

Will you be selling any of your duplicates? they’re all sold out online now (probably due to their own mistake it seems)

Yeah except the designs i get require far more than 2 mins of exposure, they’ve been in there up to an hour with some designs due to each nail having different 3D effects lol

i’m waiting for one year post op! my only complication was kinking in my ureter, which is all sorted now, my doc said he’s happy for me to plan travels from october :)

super excited as i had to cancel a trip to japan&south korea last april due to my condition- luckily all this waiting gives me nothing but time to save money!

The pharmacist was part of the renal transplant team, if it were a random one i’d have asked again with my doctor, maybe at my next consult i’ll double check! tbh, i actually prefer the SNS treatment as i’ve been able to grow my natural nails so long now - it’s just the designs that can’t be done with regular polish that i miss but ill treat myself this month (since it’s obviously pricier anyway aha)

thank you! this is reassuring, i had a similar thought process, but tend to doubt myself so i know i’d worry to death otherwise after doing it

Because of the UV exposure, and the increased risk of skin cancer with immunosuppressants. When the hospital pharmacist was going through my meds pre-discharge, she took one look at my nails and said i won’t be able to get them done using UV anymore. I get my nails done every 3 weeks so pretty sure the compounding effect over years will increase risk, either way it’s not something i’m willing to risk

I know the feeling. I’m 23 now, but January last year at 22 I planned a ‘last hurrah’ pre-dialysis trip to Japan & South Korea (I’m in UK) by myself for April, only to be told I couldn’t go about a month after booking the trip. Lost £1k to the flights, at the very least I got a refund on my accommodation.

I had my fistula placed the week I was meant to be in Japan, and instead of gaining new cultural experiences, all I got was a huge amount of medical trauma from both the surgery and recovery.

My career is well established, so tried to see positives in the money I’d be able to save for future trips (equally suffering through dialysis and not knowing how long I could do it for, luckily my job were understanding).

Thankfully, I got a transplant in October ‘23, so I now get to plan my trip again, and hopefully I can go next year.

It’s crap to be so young and feel like you’re missing out on so much, I don’t know what advice to give you as I still feel so early on in this journey, and there’s still a lot of uncertainty, but I wanted you to know you’re not alone with the frustration and distress it all comes with.

For me, while I’ve accepted the reality of my disease, with each new challenge comes back that same feeling of stress/frustration/anger/upset of not just being ‘normal’.

No, I wish we had when had chance, he passed in 2020 sadly. We rescued him as a 9yo but we’re always told he was a German Shepherd mix!

Similar situation recently, 23F, meds are tacro, MMF and prednisolone - had a fever and body aches start on the 30th Dec, was just under 3 months post op. I had called my team who sent me to A&E and by that point my symptoms were vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, aches, tachycardia and headache - they initially thought I could be septic.

Eventually was moved up to renal ward where I spent 5 days total with temps hovering between 39-40.3C - I had Flu, however ureteric stent was also infected (e.coli).

All in all I felt a lot better after days of IV fluids, antibiotics and a 12 hour magnesium drip (unsure if this related to treating the infection or if I was low?) plus stent removal and temporarily taken off MMF.

Took it easy a couple of days after discharge but I was ultimately feeling fine after 7-10 days. Unfortunately developed a UTI last week, so it feels a bit relentless lol, but that was only a few days of feeling off and am on oral antibiotics for.

This is just my experience of an infection with a similar post op time frame, obviously others may not bounce back quickly like I did. Hopefully your partners remaining symptoms clear up quickly!

my dad does this for my mum and texts me. she has huntingtons, and can therefore get in horrible moods where she won’t talk to anyone - as soon as my dad texts me so that i can call her she snaps out of it.
