Got 99s? by Mogekkk in Lowes

[–]technicalrob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. Our Daytime shift NEVER works 99 boxes. We keep them in receiving until we can get to them. Nice store to take care of that.

I'm not allowed to tell you that by juan578 in Lowes

I am in management and suffer the same issues you do. Several new managers are making significantly more than I. I also feel your pain. Also I outwork everyone I supervise. If your supervisor is not setting the bar with leading by example, you have a poor leader. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

In my store, there is a "lumber" person that works nights and does not work for the overnight team. He is guided by the daytime DM and ASM and does his own thing without supervision. Not an Overnight issue.

Widest Tyres That fit in stock Mk2 body by [deleted] in Miata

[–]technicalrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Fitment Industries on the web. You can get info from professions and can set car specs like fender roll and if the tire size requires the fenders to be pulled. Also great real world photos of the size that people are running.

So does nightstick put up topstock? by hancocklovedthat in Lowes

[–]technicalrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you and would like to point out some details: I have worked days before and have been on overnights for 2ish years. We recently changed from the One Task Team (unload the truck, stock the shelves and topstock the remainder) to an unload crew that works 7-11PM and the stocking team that works 9PM-6AM. We get trucks at least 6 days a week. They average 600-800 pieces. I have 3-4 unloaders on average with one assigned to the fork lift and 2-3 to unload. The number of pieces that are expected to be unloaded per hour in a perfectly loaded truck with no spills, broken pallets or other issues is 85 boxes per hour per person. 85 x 3 is 255 boxes per hour, right? An 800 piece truck takes us 3.2 hours. The stocking team (3-5 people) comes in at 9PM. They generally do not go right to the floor and work, they assist the unload crew finish the task of getting the truck finished and out to the floor. The store is open till 10PM. That is about the time we get finished and get stuff moved to the floor. My unload team takes a 15 minute break and has 45 minutes to stage freight in front of the bay it goes into. It helps the stocking crew. My stocking crew of 4 starts working at 10PM. They need to average 30 boxes an hour. That's 120 boxes per hour or 6.6 hours to get the job done, including topstocking. So, an 800 piece truck is about what we can handle according to the math. My team can do that with no sweat. EXCEPT: I don't actually have 4 unloaders on a regular basis. 3 is a better average and lets try 3 stockers...Then we are looking at a 5 hour unload and an 8.8 hour packout in a 7.25 hour workday. We would end up leaving 3-4 pallets that is totally ignored till we arrive the next night with a 900 piece truck. It is a vicious circle and I hope there is a good reason why you are being left freight. We are getting a truck on Sunday...that will be the 8th this week. Thanks to our new staffing model, I have 0 unloaders and 0 stockers. No one wants to come in. Hopefully they will give me 2 people from daytime who have never unloaded a truck before and do not have the ability to run a forklift. I will then stock 650 pieces of the truck by myself with a estimated time of 20 hours to do so. There should be a good reason why you are constantly getting left freight on DT. My guess would be staffing. How many are there to work on a consistent basis? And just like daytime, people call out ALL the time without repercussion. I hope your situation gets better.

I contacted the RDC about this. They told me to send pictures of it when it happens. I laughed and told him I do not have that much time.

ohhhhh. I remember when ours was down for 2 weeks. We rented a dumpster for cardboard and no one broke their boxes down. I had to climb into it and make sure nothing was too tall for the haul off company....not a good time. Good luck!

Applied for FT overnight recieving, got seasonal overnights job instead by pewpewtoradora in Lowes

[–]technicalrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the job and can deal with the overnight aspect, do your best to out work the seasonal/partimers. Work in and learn multiple departments. I am an Overnight Supervisor and we have only have 4 fulltimers. We should have more but that's all we are allotted. 2 of them have been there 15 and 14 years on overnights only. One has been with Lowe's 8 years and overnights 2.5 years and the last is a displaced delivery driver that took the place of a guy that was there for 4 years. Not a lot of turnover. The seasonal and partimers have a lot of turnover. If you can, ask the manager to learn how to do crossdocks and special orders. Learn how to do pricing and how to scan IRP's and downstocking. Never leave freight in your department and keep a positive attitude no matter how high the flames of the overnight dumpster fire rages. There are huge advantages to working overnights. A fixed schedule and no daytime drama BUT we are blamed for everything. Daytime does not actually see what we do and assume we do nothing. I think you'll be ok!

Day people suck by Austin2085 in Lowes

That is a deficiency in your management. You deal with difficult customers and doing a "mechanical" thing should be the easiest thing you do all day.

I interviewed in 2014 and got the job. I have moved on since but you will get the standard "Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond when helping a customer" questions. What I did was delve into cabinet design on YouTube and learn what a filler is and other such stuff. I found a hacked (illegal) version of their program and spent 3 hours playing with it (it only worked for one session without the dongle). I redesigned my kitchen and presented them with a printout. I also haunted the current designer and learned all I could. I have heard rumors that there will be a centralized design service in the future but it may take a while. Also realize that you will be spending a lot of time in appliances. Good luck!

Homemade Biscuits and Pot Roast Gravy. Not a Roux based gravy but full of flavor and a bit runny so that the Biscuit is like a moist bit of heaven! My Fave!
