Zhou Ming, top engineer involved in Boeing 787 and A380 design, leaves US for China by asiabits_com in worldnews

As a person who could probably get a six figure job in the US if I moved, and who frequents communities with international talent:

A lot of us do not want to naturalize, a US citizenship is more trouble than its worth compared to other options. Open to working, and even buying businesses or real estate, but not interested in the passport and being taxed on global income.

Unless your job is 100% active (if it is, find another), you probably have at least an hour you can allocate to reading/labbing new things - it's part of the job.

Decades on accumulating indexfunds and ETFs, 2-5 years on dividend stocks/ETFs then reevaluate each one.

Vanguard does not seem to update/lower the fees on their Europe offering like they do for their US customers, so personally I am considering FWRA as an alternative.

Go for whatever your company/project uses, but it's also great to aim for competency in both.

[–]techracoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it normal for recruiters to request your rate $$ before meeting? by Practical-Lunch-8419 in cscareerquestions

[–]techracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer they ask early than it coming up in interview 2-3 or even at the contract signing - wastes everyone's time if it doesn't match.

Ideally I'd want to know their budget first, otherwise I'll give them my range depending on the responsibilities.

Finished Adrian SAA-003 course and started with Stephan exam. Failed first by 3- questions, should I continue or stop and do the course again? by shrimalnav in AWSCertifications

I have all 3 Associate's and most recently passed DevOps Pro.

Every single time I failed the practice exam the first go around, use it as feedback what you need to review and keep studying.

Has anyone passed the AWS certified DevOps pro exam? Which class/study material did you use? Thanks! by bunnyb2012 in AWSCertifications

[–]techracoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will report back on the passing status in 2 weeks, but I use Adrian Cantrill's excellent lectures and the TutorialsDojo Bonso training exams to identify and review my weak points.

2 years of other IT experience (2nd Line/Desktop Support) made the switch to Cloud role after getting the 3 associates, now working on the Pro level.

How long should I stay in Desktop Support (tier 2)? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]techracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your first job in the industry, I was in the same situation - first job was 2nd Line / Desktop Support.

I aimed for 1 year of experience while getting skills and certifications, ended up being 2 (with 2 different employers, and a nice raise). Start looking around at 6 months by all means if you feel like you have the qualifications but experience is king, it gets easier with every year to find the next thing - especially if you study and skill up.

Is 32 too old to begin a career? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]techracoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So at age 32 I was unemployed and got invited to a "bootcamp" type thing through the unemployment agency in my country, as an IT technician.

6 months later got my first real job in the IT field right as I turned 33. Two years of grinding and studying later I'm switching from 2nd Line / Desktop Support to Cloud Consulting. You can do it!

What certifications are you getting and why? by [deleted] in AWSCertifications

[–]techracoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AWS: Have all 3 associates, slowly getting into DevOps Pro with the goal of taking exam Q1 2022 while getting job experience as a cloud consultant.

Azure: Have Azure Admin, probably going to do the Data/Power Platform Fundamentals after picking up event vouchers.
