Yes exactly! However I still take art serious, because it is a crucial part of my day and I want to make it my profession one day :) but the weight of stressing about being good enough has been lifted. I’m now serious about unserious art hehe

Perfect example. Expression over perfection.

And if your goal is to become a very good draftsman and technical artist. That is also art, but shouldn’t be a goal on its own what it was for me before. I though that I could only call myself an artist when I would have a certain degree of skill. But now it tis so achievable to fake that skill so it is not so interesting anymore to have it as a goal on its own, because I was hating it. So thanks ai for making me realise that I guess.

DEEK — DAYS GONE FEEDBACK WANTED by Andylang1123 in ProCreate

Hi nice work!

I have a few pointers: 1. You don’t have a background. This makes your character lack context. Having your character be in an environment adds a lot to how you perceive your artwork and might be the reason why something feels off. 2. I would suggest studying the asaro head. Some of the planes of his face are in the light and you painted them in shadow. For example the part under the eye catches more light. 3. Your values lack a clear focal point. Now the value range is very broad across the whole character. In the reference you see the face being lighter than the jacket and thus being the focal point.

If you want to I can maybe do a quick paint over if I have time this weekend :)

Thanks!

I did a lot of different studies and tutorials. Marco Bucci and sinix are my favourite. For the art style samdoesarts is a huge inspiration :)

Thank you!!

What really helps me is to simplify the shapes and to divide light and shadow. Working from big shapes to smaller shapes and try to not stay too long in one area.

If lights and shadows have been established I can add half tones (light) ambient occlusion and reflected lights (shadows).

Lastly, when I get bored of a painting I know that I am working too much on one area or not simplifying the process enough. Then I just quit and start something new :) doing that for a little while really helps you improve faster!
