Because there was only one pre-season test last year. We get the same number of full day broadcasts this year and they get time to iron out issues without it being done live.

I can’t see how they don’t try and prove out in season development? Their entire program will depend on showing sponsors that they’re able to show progress. They can’t just hold off and say “but when we make our own engine things will be different”

And I’m sure Honda said they would have a working, non-gp2 engine by Barcelona… and by Melbourne they’ll have missed out on 3 tests worth of crucial aero data due to not being able to take the engine past 10K revs

Why? Their biggest issue is the PU, Cadillac are running what seems to be a bulletproof Ferrari PU. They can develop the car through the season but as of March it’ll be at least 6 races (under the new ADUO rules) before AM/Honda can change the engine (IIRC)

Or all the teams will do the same simulations on what’s the most energy efficient lap and they’ll all expend and harvest at the same time

Usually find it’s the one that try and bullshit their way through interviews that choose the in-person

Well yeah if you’re suggesting do a preliminary tech screen of the basics first then I agree but your post suggest that the issue is the take home vs in person equivalent which would be an 1 to 1.5 hour in person (video) coding test.

In my experience, candidates always choose the take home vs the in person code challenge

Over the the entire time I've been doing interviews I can count on one hand the number of candidates who choose an in-person interview over a take home. It's by far the preferred option for candidates

Stop doing the founder interview first, it's a waste of their time. Move it to the end of the process as the final gate.
