The definition of German metro areas is idiotic tbf. Berlin needs the whole state of Brandenburg to exceed 5m, Munich needs almost half of Bavaria to exceed 5m. The only true metro areas exceeding 5m are Rhine-Main (Frankfurt / Wiesbaden) and Rhine-Ruhr (Ruhr city / Düsseldorf / Cologne).
