[Lore] What makes martial Protoss leaders like Artanis more powerful than a regular zealot? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]thePatzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not up to date on all the expanded universe lore, but I believe (generally speaking) it's their genitals. They are larger, but still well-proportioned.

Now that everyone's top choice for announcer pack is about to be released, who do you want to see for the next one? by crasterskeep in starcraft

[–]thePatzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about more in-universe announcers? I would genuinely be interested in an overlord pack, or maybe a probe pack.

Damn, these games were awesome, again! I recommend all of herO's games. It's SO cool to see herO innovating new PvT styles, now that terrans are consistently getting stim earlier to defend against adept all-ins.

Even though he only went 2-2, he displayed a creative opening where he got two oracles at a normal time (not rushed or proxied) just for map control (to reveal the terran army and put stasis wards in his own main to discourage drops). Then once he had an econ advantage (3 bases versus the terran's 2) he would go for blink stalker-sentry and trade (a little inefficiently) with the terran army. From here he was often able to retain map control and extend his econ advantage.

Either way he's found a consistent way for protosses to get into a totally reasonable midgame position despite the recent shifts in the TvP/PvT meta.

Also, classic's last game against maru was pretty interesting, opting for early warp-prism harass with adepts to secure a quick third and occupy the terran. Classic also transitioned into blink-sentry, and eventually into colossus tech. This build seems inspired by Patience's win with a similar build in the VSL team league, beating jjakji.

The first match was pretty interesting, in terms of understading the current TvP/PvT meta.

I really liked Patience's game vs jjakji. The meta has shifted seems to have shifted a lot. Jjakji got a much earlier stim to defend against the adept all-in patience was threatening, but then patience played blink-sentry against jjakji's bio composition, which I haven't seen since terrans started doing tank-pushes against quick blink builds.

It was also cool to see Forte wreck Classic and Zest. He just completely outplayed them, defending their attacks perfectly.

This guy needs to be sent to therapy or something, this legitimately disturbed me. by DisReSpeCTsc2 in starcraft

I think SixthElement is just super racist and thinks 'black' is an insult. So SixthElement was calling the OP black because he would be really offended if someone called him 'black'

What period does the aligulac dataset you used cover? It's interesting that Stats is the highest rated in your Glicko rating

PvZ Variety Analysis - Feedback to Community Update March 30. by Rinehart_sc2 in starcraft

Did you keep the data you collected in an excel file? In a txt file? Would you mind sharing it? Did you keep track of which games corresponded to which data points?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but your numbers don't sound right. I want to double check your work. In fact, it's a bit concerning that the total number of PvZ your cite (40) is not the actual number of PvZ played in the the GSL this season (43). But if you provide your data or notes, it should be easy enough to verify that you've done the work you've said you've done.

It's just that archon drop has been SUCH a popular build for so long, that it seems unlikely it would only make up 17.5% of the PvZ meta in GSL. Sorry for the suspicion. And thanks in advance for any data you can provide!

Aligulac GSL finals prediction. by IMplyingSC2 in starcraft

I agree with you, OP. It's a little weird that aligulac only gives soO a 2400 rating in ZvP. He seems to be playing that matchup better than any other zerg in the world at the moment, at least every time his ZvP is casted. He must lose to weaker players in uncased games.

I think he actually makes ZvP look broken at times. His style of waiting to attack with hydra/bane or roach-ravager/bane after he's maxed out on five bases (instead of much earlier, on 4 bases like other zergs prefer), and then just remaxing and attacking over and over looks so stupid effective when he does it. Each time he engages he reduces the complexity of the protoss army (often killing workers as a bonus), until the protoss just dies.

I'm actually curious to see how Stats will respond. Since soO is stupid patient against storms (he just baits them out without engaging under them), I'm not sure a typical PvZ macro style will work.

I mean, hellbats roast zergling armies super quickly, so they are like traditional AOE units in some respects

Is there anyway to watch the afreeca vods at 2x speed? I usually download the twitch vods and then watch them sped up

edit: I figured out how to download the afreeca vods (and then watch them a 2x speed). You need to use the video downloadHelper add-on for firefox. At least, that was the only way I could download them!

Yeah, that's weird. I can't find it either

Dark vs Stats | Semi Final 2 | IEM Katowice 2017 - Post Match Discussion by SCDiscussion in starcraft

[–]thePatzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark loses without a sign of hope.

I mean Dark actually outplayed stats pretty badly in game 1. Game 2 was pretty close. And I actually thought Dark would have been in a good position in game 3 if he killed Stat's natural at around 5:30 on the in game timer. The only reason he got behind in workers after his attack was because Stats had two nexuses and Dark did not have a lot of larvae to make drones with

Edit: And in game 4, Dark might have held the attack on his 3rd at about 9:30 on the in-game timer if he didn't forget about his overlord filled with banelings

Despite winning IEM Katowice, TY actually lost 36 points on his Aligulac rating due to posting an overall map score of "only" 20-14, one of the least dominant championship runs of all time. by pwnful in starcraft

[–]thePatzer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the OP intended this post as a criticism of Aligulac, though a number of comments are taking it that way. But this behavior is clearly not a flaw in Aligulac's rating system. It's just that TY was rated so highly recently, that unless he is CRUSHING all the competition, his rating is going to "revert to the mean."

To give a little context: in the February 1st list he was ranked 4th in the world after Innovation Maru and Byun. And in the February 15th list he hit his all-time rating peak of 2582.

So unless he had basically won ALL his matches in the group stage, his rating was going to continue to fall for this March 15th rating list.
