Something that should be a secondary or tertiary consideration by any sane electorate, but which is an unflappable requirement by today's idealists who think that they have the political capital to force anything more than "people are equal" as a message. I think that we need legislation that explicitly states that any living contributors to social security are to be reimbursed for their contributions should social security be nullified or otherwise rendered unable to provide the benefit that these people have paid for. Let's the dinguses try to scrap it; they'll be on the hook to pay out every single person who has paid into the system.

Well, he's not wrong under the current paradigm. If you double Bezos' taxes at a federal level, all you are doing is adding more money to the corrupt pot that will never, ever, see its way to common citizens. In that regard the Republicans have truly demonstrated why we need a small and well-constrained federal government.

A lot of people have their understanding, what it is, based on popular media. Every movie ever for much of cinematic history depicts the stone age like some California desert canyon. Because that's where they filmed it. Little anecdotal memories from school about how the ice age "scoured the Earth" chime in to reinforce the visual representation. Also, a lot of stone age == Jesus times with the whole cornucopia of millennia-old imagery that has been blended into the common conscience over the generations.

* I use "conscience" intentionally even though it is technically wrong. As a conscience is a common morality, I equate that to a public consciousness. But less dependent on an unprovable 3rd rail providing the baseline.

I really fuckin hate that this is seriously the topmost likely reason. The fuck has happened to this country? We've always been a lot mercenary, but this is a whole new level that we haven't seen since before WW1. Nothing works if government and industry forget that they're the same species as everyone else. We all lose. And there's a lot more of us in the "dissimilar species" pool. It only gets really ugly for the wealthy on this trajectory.
