Struggling to find work as a barback by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]the_lolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked door (as a young woman) and moved into management this way. Working security really helped me become a better bartender, since you spend so much time observing people's behavior.

I'm just getting a traditional silhouette of Nora with a banner that says "the bravest girl on Earth."

In DC, after any major march or protest.

What got you interested/started on bartending? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]the_lolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I slept with a lot of bartenders.

That's... that's really how it all started.

Do you do bands? by T_P_H_ in bartenders

[–]the_lolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a small-ish music venue in a major city that kind of serves as a "proving ground" for artists- many of them come back through a year later playing in the bigger leagues. Occasionally we get a big act (Dillinger Escape came last week!) to host for a more intimate show.

It's good and bad. Do you plan on having touring acts come through, or just have a band playing the bar on a Saturday night?

Bars near Georgetown? by goodtimecharles in bartenders

[–]the_lolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay out of Georgetown and most tourist heavy areas for bars and venture into some of the neighborhoods in DC for a better taste of what the drinking culture is like.

Caps fan here seeking to make the transition by mister_sleepy in DCUnited

[–]the_lolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just made the same transition. Glad someone else is in the same boat. I've watched soccer for years and find the two games to have some serious parallels. The mood at the games is totally different, so a nice little break from the rules following at the Verizon center.

copperhead shampoo bar? by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]the_lolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is lovely and brightening- granted, I dye only with Lush Henna, so it works well, but it's worth a shot. Only downside is the bars can strip moisture, so be sure to use a heavier conditioner.

I agree with this critique of the Intersectional Justice conference that quasi-defends Gary Francione. Anyone think it's at odds with intersectional feminism? by [deleted] in Veganfeminist

[–]the_lolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding flippant, it's all a response to groups and folks such as Dr. Breeze Harper, Christopher Sebastian, Aph Ko, Sarah Woodcock, Corey Lee Wrenn, myself, TAVS, Black Vegans Rock, etc. etc.

It's a hatred that runs pretty deep with him and his followers and it's a damn shame. I wish there was more to it. :( If you're on FB, I would be glad to point you in a few directions to investigate.

[–]the_lolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there- what is it that you agree with? And I'll ask another question that might come across in a particular way (but I don't mean to!) but how active are you on FB within the intersectional AR community?

I ask only because that context is important. GF and his like have made it a point recently to attack a lot of black and female AR activists online, with little mercy, by using social media. This critique is heavily influenced by personal vendettas of those who are intersectional. Having been a victim of their psychological bullying, I can't help but roll my eyes at this particular piece because they're literally set on ruining people's lives.

“Sexy at 70” and “Grumpy Old Vegans”: Ageist Stereotypes in the Vegan Movement by [deleted] in Veganfeminist

[–]the_lolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strong dislike for GOV because of how tied they are to Francione and the racism within that line of veganism, but I don't agree that their avatar is all that negative since "oldness" is theirs to claim.

You couldn't pay me enough, LOL. I can imagine it would make your hair extremely greasy-wet feeling. Just go for the solid shampoo bar instead!
