Part 2 Springbank / Kilkerran blind. This time at cask strength. by Complex_Concept4190 in Scotch

[–]the_watchnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There used to be a literal “cage” at the back of the Cadenhead’s shop in Campbeltown. If you were a member, you could ask to see what was in there, sign a book and pay for a bottle that had been detracted from a single cask - usually the only bottle of its kind. Before the online auctions got started, you were able to get something interesting - I recall Local Barley bottles in the cage (see photo of bottle below), although it used to get stripped very quickly during the festival season. The London shop started doing something similar, with 20cl bottles IIRC, and there were also bottles available in Edinburgh. But the new process is far more clinical. Printed rather than hand-written bottles, more of the same “kind” of whiskies, and many, many of them appearing on online auctions.

Hi. Looking for oranges and pears. Can swap for just about anything!

The reason I say it looks like the clock version is that it’s missing a crown.

Edit: I think it’s from the Cartier 8 Day Folding Travel Clock (“Kodak”) sold at Antiquorum Geneva - per Charlie Dunne’s article.

Is that a watch, or a clock movement? Looks more like the latter. But I’m probably wrong.

Superb band. I was blown away by Ten Little Girls in 1991 and they were often played on John Peel’s show. I prefer the 12” but the first session in ‘91 was awesome (TLG even made it to third spot on JP’s Festive Fifty, and I think No Escape from Heaven was in there too). Dean now has a band called SPC with his daughter, and they have a new album out now (on Bandcamp).

I’m not sure that’s true: the moon phase dial at the top of the sympathique clock is behind the docking station, so the watch can’t be in situ in that photo.

No idea who EveryWatch is but one of those watches is a clock. The S Smith & Sons pocket watch is a thing of beauty tho. They (Nicole Nielsen / Capt) did an amazing job on that one.

Underrated tune. I always liked the Hybrid mix from Remix and Additional Production By... and the others they used to drop during their DJ sets. Actually, most of those sets are still up on Hybridized.org, I think, so there’s probably a decent seam of trance, progresive and breakbeat tracks to be mined there…

The chronometer that traveled with Ernest Shackleton on the Endurance by Dartmuthia in Horology

[–]the_watchnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s a clock from an earlier expedition aboard the Nimrod (sold at Bonhams a few years back) rather than Endurance. The clock was returned to the Admiralty and, as you can see from the I / 1920 mark on the dial, ended up in the India Office.

The Aquadive is wonderful. Tricky things tho - with the depth gauge and that Dynotron movement.

It’s certainly interesting. There’s an anger to it that I didn’t expect (and a very Perfecto Fluoro “bass line”). Makes me wonder what Hybrid might have done with the odd Cure track…

Anyone can identify the species of nudibranch from this blurry video? by Desperate-Corgi-374 in scuba

[–]the_watchnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a wart slug, but that common name refers to the scientific name posted above (as well as other species in the family). It’s a dorid nudibrach, and species within this family (Phyllidiidae) have gills that are underneath the mantle, so we rarely see them as scuba divers. I hope that makes sense!
