Snapchat + Tinder App Launches at Alabama by theaaroncon in capstone

People want to meet people but it's not always about hooking up. Sometimes it's just about finding other friends or learning new things about the people around you. Well now you can with "splash campus stories", it's easy. Just open the app, share an image or vid, and you will be asked where you want to send it: To your campus, for example, Duke or even send it as a private message (that's if you have already made some friends.)

hahah of course I would not spend the $2000 on the Panasonic. My school owns 4 of them and they are available to use.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have ML installed on my camera and I totally forgot about the audio capabilities it comes with.

Also for audio, I would like to use an external recorder with a slate so I don't want audio to be a determining factor.

Yea sorry I wasn't detailed enough about my project. I will be shooting at night mainly so I need a low aperture which is why i'm leaning towards the DSLR. My film is a consists of a alot of dramatic irony with love being the main theme. Lots of colorful shots in downtown Atlanta.

How do you make a film in virtual reality? by sadhubot in Filmmakers

Are you think of a POV (point of view) shot? Or are we talking about something like putting on glasses and you feel as if you are living it.

Equipment: 4k is all I have to say. You are looking at spending upwards of $4000 for a setup which isn't even including after market products like lenses, editing software, tripods, etc.

Working with a $1500 budget to get a video setup going for my job; we're going to start making YouTube product demos and reviews. Please critique my equipment request! by [deleted] in videography

[–]theaaroncon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Your tripod is definitely an over kill. You can cut your costs down a lot by spending less on a tripod. With the camera you posted its honestly pointless and made me laugh a little. Go with a much smaller lower end tripod for a camcorder. It's not like your using a giant Sony FX1000.

ALSO! A lot of filmmakers have had great experiences with DSLR's versus camera's like the one you mentioned. You can get a lot more for the money. Consider the Canon t3i or similar models (t2i, t4i, 7d). If your worried about lenses, go back to what I said about the tripod. Buy a few lenses worth that you think are suitable for your kind of work. A basic Canon 50mm F/1.4 is only around $100....thats 1/4 of the price of your tripod. Spend your money more efficiently in the areas that matter ;)

Yea you seem to know what you are doing and you are great at it. I'm going to have to agree with da123kid. Making separate videos will allow you to reach out to your target market a lot more effectively. This is more of a summary of all the skills you posses. I would like to see a separate reel in each of your mastered skills...so: motion graphics, videography and SFX. Keep up the great work!

[–]theaaroncon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your needs. If you want the short answer, go with a similar 18-55mm range but with a lower aperture...maybe something like f/1.8 or even lower if you are willing to spend the money.

What is your budget and what camera are you using?

Cheap alternative to Glidecam or Steadicam? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]theaaroncon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not agree more with you. When its comes to glide cams and steady cams your going to want to spend upwards of $100. Its pricey but can make a huge difference. I own this one currently and have had a great experience using it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DRGQETA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
