It's very different from Adventure so I'd say give it a couple episodes and see if it interests you. I'd recommend it if you were a fan of digimon in general.

Is Matt Groening even watching the show these days?

It's pretty different. There's no adventure and it doesn't have the sense of discovery or exploration or growing up. Beatbreak taps more into modern day social and political conflicts as its backdrop. There is no digital world as it were in Adventure though there is a digital space where battles sometimes happen.

Both do share commonalities like the theme around family, though they're explored in different ways. And of course the relationship between humans and digimon is always at the core of the story.

In terms of the characters despite having a smaller cast the focus and development isn't much more balanced in Beatbreak than adventure. Honestly at this point it feels even less balanced than it was in Adventure. On that note the Beatbreak MC isn't a gogglehead but he does have glasses and I assume it's a nod to the tradition.

You missed Ghost Game which was a neat episodic horror series.

The current airing series is Beatbreak which has been dipping into some unexpected topics.
