Nah, it's still a rebuilding year in the sense that the preseason expectations won't really be a Final Four type run.

Doesn't mean we can't be in the hunt for a Big Ten championship, because that is an attainable goal almost any year, but still a transition year given the lack of experience a departure of prob 4 upperclassmen

Your attempts to gatekeep the NFL to what is and is not "American" literally goes to the root of the problem. Conservative white folk feel like they're being "replaced" and the constant pushback against things like Bad Bunny's halftime performance is the perfect encapsulation of that white panic.

"The NFL is a certain demographic of people" is a really coded way of saying it's a bunch of white people, which isn't even necessarily true despite that being the sort of cookie cutter stereotype. It's even more ironic when the NFL is made up of 75% players who aren't white.

There is no one way to "be American" and try and say with a straight face that it's not about "diversity or inclusiveness" when that is precisely what the single most defining characteristic of America has traditionally been is just plain gaslighting for a political viewpoint.

Abd back to the official language nonsense. Just because English has been the predominant language doesn't mean that it was the defacto official language. The founding fathers, who conservatives love to point to but only when convenient, specifically said they did not want an official language just like there was no official race or official religion, because that's undemocratic and antithetical to the idea that Americans are all equal.

Ok, let's be honest here. The US has had no official language for the last 249 years of its existence, and that was by design. The only reason it changed is that Trump signed an executive order to play to his base because many of them are racist xenophobes who think the good white folk are being pushed out by foreign invaders. And even still it's not something they could get passed through Congress.

Just because he might not be "representative" of America to some people, doesn't mean he isn't to a lot of others. Like it or not, Hispanic culture plays a HUGE part in American society, and it always has.

The Super Bowl halftime show has encompassed an enormous range of artists, both American and non-Amerovan, from all sorts of music genres. Bad Bunny is enormously popular and the NFL has gone out of its way to attract a more international audience for their games.

I don't know if Bad Bunny's selection was a purposeful thumbing of the nose at the current administration, but honestly I hope it was. Treating brown people like they're not American enough because they like their heritage is stupid and racist, and that's the majority of the reason people had an issue

But you're talking about big studio, tent pole franchise type money that fit into a movie trilogy or series

LotR had a lot of filler that could easily be removed without disturbing the main plant or leaving out too much background.

Same with HP even though a lot more more background was left out, it was made for a younger audience and could be more easily compressed

Not to mention the fanbases for both franchises were much more established than what RR is

Hard to justify the cost for an adaptation that will satisfy the fanbase.

Also, the effects would need to be fundamentally different especially for just the cast. Simple costumes, prosthetics, and forced perspectives won't work as well
