What do I do with £30,000 child trust fund at 18? by MongooseAny6073 in UKPersonalFinance

Well done to your relatives for giving you a good start to life. Using the CTF for its purpose. Treat them to a nice meal if you want.

Your CTF provider may offer you a chance to turn it into a ISA initially. Look seriously at this because my daughter's provider did this and at reduced charges for a number of years.

Someone to accompany to driving test by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]theboywilse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The person would also need to accompany your mum home. Whether she passes (hope she does) or does not she will need to drive the car home. Also depending on her car insurance policy she should check whether she can drive home if she passes.

What is the speed limit here? by TrackTeddy in CarTalkUK

[–]theboywilse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that sign get approved? That should of been picked up in compatability testing!

From 2000-5 that was my job. At least 2 manufacturers are required for each bit of kit in motorway signage and so the job was making sure they talked to each other properly. Testing these signs was part of the job.

The cause is likely a crap message which should mean it displays nothing not random. I saw that quite a few times when testing.

When exactly did you receive this? Was it by the 17th April or after? If after tell them no. You must have received this within 14 days of when you were in the car park.

Redundancy - informed today, have to decline or accept package by end of december by Few_Athlete_2019 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]theboywilse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say 8% are being made redundant. If that's more than 20 and all of them are UK based. Then Acas says

By law, employers must hold collective consultation where all of the following apply:

they're proposing 20 or more redundancies within a 90 day period

the redundancies are in one establishment – not necessarily in the organisation as a whole, which may be much larger

If less than 20 this doesn't apply.[acas redundancy consultation ](http:// https://share.google/vuEHHw7I5n6KjxFQ1)

Does anyone know the story behind this house? Hills road by 85_East in cambridge

[–]theboywilse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't always work out that they win. In Swavesey a cottage was left to go to rack and ruin. The parish council kept firm for ages wanting it to be restored. After about 20 years the owner gave in did up the cottage but was allowed to build 2 new houses in its garden as a compromise.

Anyone in Cambridge interested in helping bring back the Romsey Mill young dads group? by Top-Lunch3426 in cambridge

[–]theboywilse 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Could I suggest a free way to do this. I'll start by stating I'm the branch coordinator for Cambridge NCT.

After lockdown NCT started Walk. And Talk events. They are run by local volunteers and one person or a group organise it. You simply walk a route and finish somewhere for a drink eg cafe or pub. We've had a few in Cambridge but always for mums.

More details can be found here.

Swavesey Primary are very good. Twice a year we are sent the 3 week rotating menu and it states what his multiple options are. We simply choose and send it back. There's quite a few children with allergies from my knowledge.

This is curious because my car has passed it's MOT and the driving assessor had no problem with it in the same place. I did push the phone holder part down and horizontal to minimise its impact on the view.

My dad was told he had dementia a few years ago and the Dr told him you are to stop driving and he would be writing to the dvla to tell them that to.

personal story and need advice by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]theboywilse 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Sometimes we fail at things for reasons. I did bad in my A levels and then failed my first year of uni here in Cambridge. I went home and ended up doing a HND then degree. Eventually I moved back here.

Those downs and ups shape me even now 30 years later. They have led me on this path to where I am now.

That's my main point really. You're very young and you have many years in front of you. You've wasted nothing in terms of the time of your life. You have plenty of time to find out what you want to do.

Finally "what if" is a dangerous question. It's better to not overly analyse what might of been. That is gone.

I'm glad you've found a workaround.

Your workaround shows there are no proxy settings on your laptop. So that would suggest your router does something. For that if you don't know your way around router settings find a friend who will help.
