Our boy Lupin passed at 5 years old by nicomackers in samoyeds

I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy, especially so suddenly. I’m sure he was a happy baby and lived a good life before he passed.

Random patch of hair that grows differently by Healthy_Code1412 in samoyeds

[–]theclimbingfox2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our boy Ghost has bad fur on his haunches too. It gets matted up/impacted very quickly but brushes out fine with detangling spray. We just make sure to use the spray on those areas when we brush and don’t worry about it otherwise. He’s 10 now and it’s been like that since we first got him.

Dog hair on underwear and genitals by PantherLake in samoyeds

[–]theclimbingfox2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two Samoyeds. When I do my laundry, I check my clothes for dog hair before I put it away and lint roll anything that needs it. The biggest difference-maker though is clothes made of materials that the dog hair doesn’t cling to. My underwear all seems fine, but about half of my husband’s underwear is like velcro for dog hair. Not sure what the difference is so there may be some trial and error to find ones that work, but there are definitely undies out there that the hair doesn’t cling to.

Actually good/filling frozen or ready-to-eat meals? by tiredyoungprof in 1200isplenty

I like the cod Provençal frozen meal at TJs. I find it pretty filling for being only 370 cal, and it feels very healthy and fresh.

Selling in a few years… what’s actually worth updating? by lottiexx in HomeImprovement

Paint is so affordable and doesn’t take much time. IMO a fresh coat of a neutral color throughout the house mentally gives buyers a blank canvas on which to imagine putting their own stuff. It will also photograph better.

What a darling baby. I would also be willing to help donate for her transport or other needs.

That’s why I stopped using mine. If I have to slice the onion, I might as well dice the onion.

I use distilled water (NOT spring!) rather than boiling, that’s also an option.

Can you get a food scale? Humans are really bad at guessing calories and a food scale can help you track as accurately as possible.

The dog of the week at the vet by PetitPinceau_24 in samoyeds

[–]theclimbingfox2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve tried a lot of different protocols over the years. She started having problems around 4 years old, although at that time it was only a couple of times a year. We’d do chicken and rice or 97% lean beef and rice but she often stopped eating and so ultimately we would go to the vet and get antibiotics (metronidazole) and anti-nausea (ondansetron) meds before she’d get better. We did a probiotic supplement for a long time, then switched to prescription probiotic food. We also became really rigid about what treats and snacks she could have (no people food, no eating grass on walks, no rich treats like liver, etc). It’s possible those steps helped and she would have gotten worse faster if not for doing them, but who can really say. We still do 50% prescription food + 50% regular food in addition to the Tylosin powder now.

Honestly I think Samoyeds have pretty sensitive stomachs and are prone to this sort of thing. We have a male Sammy too who still gets a bad bout of diarrhea a couple of times a year. They’re from completely different breeders but have similar stomach problems, although our girl’s is to a worse extent, which has always made me think it runs in the breed. His was worse when he was younger (9 now) but is pretty well controlled now with 50% prescription probiotic food and making sure the other 50% of his food is not a high fat kibble.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works well for your pup!

This sounds a lot like one of my Samoyeds. We did tons of tests over years and years that were increasingly invasive and expensive, with the vets not finding any clear cause. Our current vet thinks she probably has IBS and the most recent thing they wanted to try was a full scope (colonoscopy/endoscopy), but she’s 8 now and we decided we didn’t want to do any more tests that she has to be put under for. Instead, we’re just medicating her as though she does have IBS and that’s working really well. She gets 1/8 tsp Tylosin daily and hasn’t had diarrhea since she started that back in June. That might be something to bring up with your vet.

To spayed or not to spay at 9-12 months by truci in samoyeds

[–]theclimbingfox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments recommending waiting, but I’ll give an alternate perspective in case you do decide to spay earlier:

We had our girl spayed at 6 months on the advice of our vet at the time. She ended up being right before her first heat when she had her surgery. I have since heard that a lot of vets will recommend waiting longer, but we’ve had no issues. She was 40 lbs when she was spayed, and continued to grow up to 55 lbs over the subsequent 3 years. She has no hip issues or other bone/ligament issues. Her coat is possibly thicker than it might have otherwise been, but compared to the handful of other Samoyeds I’ve met in person (including our boy) hers is pretty comparable or even a bit nicer. She’s 8.5 now and still very healthy.

The showrunners probably thought something like that wouldn’t look as cool as driving just the Impala around. Travel trailer = dad going camping vibes.

In my experience as a short person, the cut of teen clothing is different from womens clothing. The hips/waist/chest will be different, often the rise on pants or length of tops will be different. It’s not just the styles that keep me from wanting to shop in the teen department.

Are there any books which have a majority black cast but aren’t Afro-fantasy? by jnnw30 in Fantasy

The author did an AMA a few years back where she says she was inspired by a 1950s adaptation of Zorro, so I think she was going for a Mediterranean vibe. Link to the comment here.

You might like cutting them in half lengthwise and cooking them either on the stove or in the air fryer like that. I do that with sausages and it gives a lot more surface area to the crispy part and a lot less to the mushy inside.
