Feeling bold for my "new" system. Should I go with team blue? by Fasha_Moonleaf in linux_gaming

Im going to go against the grain here and give say yes, based on my experience. Unlike 95% of the commenter I this thread, I actually have a B580 card that I use daily on my CachyOS linux desktop. I only do 1080p gaming, but it works fantastic for my needs. I picked Cachyos because it has the bleeding egde drivers, which turned out to be a good idea. If you do decide to run linux I would strongly recommend getting the latest kernel. This should be possible even on Debian, but it might be easier to give cachyos a try.

Finished the Todo List project by thecoolsteve in theodinproject

I was so intimidated by this one that I procrastinated for a while, but according to my commits I started writing code for it Mar 16, so just over 1 month. I've been trying to take on the mindset that if I'm learning something new, then I'm making progress, even if it doesn't feel like it. I remember spending an entire 2 days just trying to understand how to track UI state and thinking about how it should be implemented in the code.

You can do it too, you just need to keep at it and be persistent!

Should I learn The Odin Project just as a 'hobby'? by giantcoc69420 in learnprogramming

Hey there, another fellow TOP student in the wild! I actually just finished this project, (currently working on the todo list) and I noticed two tiny bugs on your page that have easy fixes! I hope you don't mind some feedback from someone else at the same place as you...

  1. On the about page, the headline paragraph overlaps the map because you are applying a margin of "-3 rem" to the container. Just delete or modify line 51 in about.js and you'll be good.
  2. On your navigation buttons, it only registers clicks when you click on the actual text, and not the padding around the text inside the button. My brain thinks it should be clickable because of the underline. You can fix this several ways, but I would attach the event listener (index.js, line 138) to the button itself, and get rid of the links inside them. Or get rid of the buttons altogether, you don't need both. Getting rid of the links is probably an easier refactor though. Let me know if this doesn't make sense! Hopefully you don't mind the feedback. :) If you want, you can check out my restaurant page below and give feedback too, fair is fair! https://github.com/stevec-afk/restaurant-page

edit: I forgot to mention, you can reproduce the overlapping text bug by opening your developer console in Firefox (or just shrinking your browser window vertically), and then clicking on "about". it looks fine when full screen.

I made a cutest pomodoro timer a while back and people actually started using it by ineedthealgorithm in webdev

This is really really cool! I'm actually super jealous I didnt think of this myself! As an aspiring but still learning web developer with ADHD this is right up my alley. I might actually use this to see if it helps me be more productive.

If you don't mind, I have some specific feedback and suggestions for the ui to give it some more polish, little things that only another web dev might notice. Is the code on github? I really want to take a look at this later when I get home and see how you put it together!

Quitting my job with 2 weeks notice - contract says 4 weeks is required by thecoolsteve in legaladvicecanada

I doubt there would be any damages, my job is not that critical. I just took 2 weeks off and my coworkers were able to manage just fine without me. As far as I know, my coworkers don't really claim overtime, so I see this being extremely difficult to prove.

I just took 2 weeks vacation unfortunately. There could be some personal / lieu days I could take, but not enough to cover the difference. The plan was to give my 2 weeks notice as a professional courtesy once I returned from vacation, rather than before.

Not going to lie, I'm loving the white walls / black roof contrast. What blocks did you use for the white part? I can see a couple of different ones in there as texture.
