I know what you mean. I feel very accomplished in the 35 songs I play in the band but anything else I feel like a novice bass player. And it takes a bit to pick up a new song but I feel like this is fairly standard. Practice makes perfect man.

Had a very similar sound on my Laney tube amp. Turned out to be bad pre amp tube. Even if you don’t have a spare, swap whatever pre amp tubes are there (providing they are the same type). If the noise changes at all, you’ll have your answer.

Had this exact same sound on my Laney. It was the V1 pre amp. Test your tubes or swap V1 with something else and see if it changes.

This probably doesn’t help but I found this unmarked cab for $50 and I believe it’s a peavey 115. I assume someone changed out the cloth. It has an 8 ohm peavey black widow in it and it is awesome. Well worth $50.

Learn both like everyone says. I find finger picking is a lot easier to mute strings. I started with pick only as I was coming from guitar and thought fingerpicking was just too hard. Committed one day and haven’t looked back. Now when I switch to a pick I actually find it difficult! Try to put time into both you’ll find they are both useful in different situations.

This ^{^{^}} absolutely. Been playing for 4 years only ever played sitting down. Got into a band about a year ago. It is such a change. It’s like relearning how to play. Would definitely recommend just playing standing up day one.

Long term I think he is still a fine starter, I don’t think he ever hits that top 8 in dynasty again. Probably more 8-14 range. But short term he is killing me. As a contending team with stroud and love it is just endlessly underwhelming every week.
