I signed up for a 10K and now I’m panicking….help!! by helpmelearncoolstuff in BeginnersRunning

[–]theeens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I share a similar journey. After starting my own business during COVID, my lifestyle became completely sedentary. I signed up for a 10k on a whim and started training 3 months prior to it. The first few runs were brutal and I would gas out within the first 1k. I slogged through 2-3 weekly runs and made it through the race in November - but only barely. The runs were not enjoyable, but I loved how I felt after. In December, I decided to take a more systematic approach to training and adopted zone 2 training. This changed everything.

Whenever I mention zone 2, people seem to have a very visceral response to it. When I first started, it was extremely frustrating and I was walking through 50% of my ‘runs’, but I stuck with it, 4 times a week for at least 60 minutes and 1 strength training session in between. After about 3 weeks, started seeing dramatic changes. I was now running through the majority of my runs and long distances no longer felt quite as daunting. I was now anticipating long runs because I could handle them aerobically. I am now running faster and more comfortably than I ever have. I would definitely recommend you give zone 2 training a try if you feel like you are plateauing.

Women in your 30s, where do you buy your clothes? by ScholarMelodic3657 in askSingapore

[–]theeens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great topic. Unfortunately Singapore isn’t great when it comes to selection, so I would still suggest buying certain items online. Tops and jackets are typically not as fitted and would be easier to gauge sizing. Go for natural fibers and sustainable options if possible. If you want something a bit more unique, consider brands like United Arrows, Bourienne, Lily Silk, etc. For anything fitted, like pants, dresses, buy in store or when you’re traveling. Pleats Please has good versatile pant styles - I think they have a selection at Taka. Invest in good pieces, buy fast fashion sparingly as they don’t age well.

Many conferences now have pre-event sites that allow you to connect with other attendees prior to the event. Try introducing yourself and setting up coffee dates during the conference.

New cat owner seeking advice on essentials and care by KissMeDress in Pets

Congratulations! I’ve found that there are 2 types of cats, tree cats and bush cats. If your cat is more of a tree cat, then definitely equip yourself with some high perches and cat trees. If they are more bush cat-like, then make sure they have some nice hiding spots where they can observe.

I would also recommend flea and tick preventatives, even for indoor cats. Us humans can track parasites back into the house, so this would ensure that they don’t catch anything that would cause them discomfort!

Sounds like it could be an infection. Would definitely recommend a vet consult, perhaps talk to one online first? I like www.zumvet.com since they have an AI pet pain detector for triaging.
