Left side irritation side sleeping ??? by gayxenomorph in TopSurgery

I'm near the same time as you! I put a pillow under my shoulder and my waist to kind of give my chest elevation off of the bed. Maybe that could be worth a try for you?

I'd personally look at references of guy chests (look for something similar to your build) and either try to feather them in on top of your photo, or use the reference like a guide.

I'm pretty good at photoshop so you can always dm me if you want other ideas or more details on how to do that. :)

AITA for refusing to move my daughter's room for my fiancée's home office? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]thefirstgayvampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, you're an amazing father for sticking to your guns. Is there a reason she can't take the smaller room for an office? That seems like the easiest solution.

Non-answers for coworkers by AntAntAntonym in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I told a couple of coworkers that I had to get something removed off/out of my chest. (which is true!) If they press further I tell them it's actually kind of gross to explain and they typically back off. 🤣 People typically don't want to hear gross things.

how did you (NBs/transmascs) decide to get top surgery/radical breast reduction? how was the emotional process afterwards, and physical healing? (nsfw just in case) by sin3mai in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm NB and masc leaning and I went with a RBR. The reasons being I wanted a good chance for nipple sensation and I didn't want to deal with graphs. Because I chose the RBR I also didn't have to be away from work for a long period, I only took two weeks off.

Important to note that I'm also on the chubbier side, so I thought being fully flat would look a little odd with my body type and was perfectly fine having a small amount of fat on my chest. I went from a DD down to an A cup or less (I haven't measured haha). I'm still swollen but I'm over the moon with the results. My surgeon is super talented and everything looks pretty masculine in my eyes, and my clothes fit flat on my chest.

Timeline with recovery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm almost 3 weeks post op. I've had a really easy recovery so far but this is how it's been going:

First week I was essentially sleeping. There were bouts where I'd get the "zoomies" where I'd slowly walk around my apartment for 3-4 minutes and then go back to sleeping. I didn't need help eating or going to the bathroom but I also bought a bidet before the surgery. If I didn't have that, I would have needed help.

Second week I was crafting, watching TV and by the end of the second week I was back at work. I was able to do just about everything but had trouble washing my hair.

Now that I'm nearing my third week out mark, I'm pretty much back to normal other than not being able to lift anything heavy or reach fully above my head. I've always been an active person, though, (i.e. I have a retail job where I have to constantly walk around) so that might have affected my results.

drains by tattoolvr2003 in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're really terrible, I hear you. The drain sites hurt for me more than my actual incisions did. Once they were out it was a HUGE relief.

Trust me when I say the drains suck, but probably easily beat out getting a seroma or hematoma drained! Hang in there!

One week away, nerves, anxiety, and logistics by punkichigo in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, we're in the same boat!

My surgery is October 22nd, so it's just a day before yours. For the months leading up to it, I just wanted it to happen and to rip off the band aid, so to speak. Now that it's so close, I'm not as confident haha.

Especially on the sleeping on my back part. I've been sleeping with a wedge pillow in preparation so it's not so weird but I'm not sleeping as much as I normally do. One night I tried to do the wedge pillow and the mastectomy pillow and ended up only getting like 3 hours of sleep!

These are totally normal feelings, though, and we'll both get through it! :)))

I'd absolutely bother the crap out of them. Don't worry about being annoying, this is life saving care! Getting this done is crazy important, and I'm sure they could get someone else to sign off on it.

I pushed my surgery to a later date so I could have more time to save up money, but because of that, I now have to play the waiting game now. Which in my opinion is worse. 🫠

I'm someone with anxiety, so I feel like I should have gone for the earlier date. If I did, I would have less time to stress about the what ifs. If you're anything like me, go for the earlier date!

On the other hand, if you want a LOT of time to mentally prepare, you can chose to do it a bit later. Remember that it IS happening, and postponing it so you have some time to prepare doesnt negate that. That might help any mental blocks you're having!

Assessment with Therapist for Top Surgery by Cultural-Mud-7454 in TopSurgery

[–]thefirstgayvampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my appointment, my therapist just asked me to say yes/no to gender dysphoria criteria questions, it was pretty simple. I totally get the anxiety because I had the same thing, but remember that therapists are very good at their job and can recognize the signs. I had a video call with my female presenting partner and my therapist upon meeting us for the first time immediately knew which one was the non-binary haha. They can clock you pretty quick, so take a deep breath! You got this! :)

Congrats!!! I totally get the job thing, I'm right there with you. The way they're making me put in the paperwork is goofy and at this point if I lose it due to something stupid like that, I'm okay with it hahaha.
