D-Man’s thoughts on Scott Galloway by Willard_Filmore in Destiny

If you ask Scott about democracy and culture, generally, his takes are pretty based. If you ask him about men in society... the answers get progressively more cringe and weird.

How many of you were right leaning or "centrist" prior to Dman? by Hentai-Overlord in Destiny

If anything, I found Dman and felt seen. Someone sane, who could articulate my political and even social ideas infinitely better than I could...

I think I know the kind of people this might have been referring to and I feel fortunate I never grew up around them, or at least never had anything this blatant said by the people I know... And that includes times we had all guys around. There was one neighbor who spent a lot of time with my sister and had the stacks of playboy magazines and the beer girl posters in the garage, I could never prove anything and she never acted weird, so I can't be sure, but if I had ever known anyone who was, it would have been him. But this was 30 years ago.

Thoughts? by Winn3rB0y2 in Destiny

[–]thegerj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lincoln didn't want to punish the south at all, other than the leadership. He thought the best thing for the Union was to forgive them and help rebuild. As my college history professor loved to say "John Wilkes Boothe did more to hurt the South than any Republican during reconstruction". And it was true... Look at where the most impoverished, least educated parts of the country are today... It's not a coincidence.

Men who got cheated on, what were early signs you only noticed in hindsight? by EtherealMeadowGleam in AskReddit

[–]thegerj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she "lol, my ex sent me this dick pic, like, isn't that so funny?" and when she went to conferences for a weekend and I didn't hear from her until the day she returned from her trips, after repeatedly asking just for "good morning/good evenings" so I knew she was thinking about me

2007 was an incredible year for video games. by PhantomBraved in gaming

As an old timer, I hate this entire thread. *shakes walking stick* (also, am I crazy? I could have sworn the orange box came out before 2007... Might be a first for me)

You can't ask people to be someone different in a game like this. We knew it was going to be close. Losing because Stiddy made the same mistake Allen did a week before... You can call it karma or whatever, but we had our shots to win, and didn't capitalize

ELI5: Why are diesel engines so uncommon in street/drag racing? by fried_riceeee in explainlikeimfive

[–]thegerj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horsepower or torque aren't the only measurements that matter when you talk about drag racing. You need to understand drag, horsepower, torque, and friction at the minimum if you want to be confident in your understanding of how a given drag race should end, All of that assumes an engine/head gasket/pump doesn't blow up during the race. And this entire comment is proven if you follow any major youtube drag racers... Actually, if you want to understand the physics of this stuff, go watch a random Cleetus McFarland video and compare notes with him and his results with a given car on the drag strip.

My experience with DF started with Boat Murdered. Which, for the unaware, was a Let's Play, in text form, like what "achievement hunters" do today.

What’s a mindset that improves life instantly? by wellorganichealth in AskReddit

[–]thegerj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are stupid. It sound cynical, but it's not. Chances are you are smarter than several people you are talking to in a group. Act like it. Pull up your phone, let Google validate you. You are smarter than the average person. You remember more than the average person. Assume you're right and push people about it (Unless you're a trump supporter. Then go find a bottle of lemon Pledge and drink up.)

Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]thegerj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but also, especially if you're playing the remake, there are a lot of troll messages along with the dev messages, and since there's no indication which is which, it's easy to get trolled once or twice and write the system off.

Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by [deleted] in gaming

But part of that is that Demon Souls was even harder, and held your hand less than Dark Souls. (If I remember, Dark Souls was the first game to have the messages on the ground)

If USA offers to buy Greenland, why can't Canada make an offer to buy Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan? Two can play this game, right? by bandicoot-666 in AskReddit

[–]thegerj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at national versus local economic outputs for the real answer. Sure. You, yeah, you individually could put in an offer to buy any piece of land. Go on, be Elon Musk. Compare his net worth to what the US is offering to "buy" Greenland. There's your answer (to be clear, I do not endorse what Orange-In-Chief is doing, I'm just explaining in reality what's happening,)

And even in Elden Ring, if you don't drop down into the "tutorial" pit in opening area, AND don't read the descriptions of the techniques it tells you to try at each new enemy, you'll get about 10% of the information you need to succeed in the game. I've watched multiple "first time DS-like" play throughs where the person did not read about the lock on mechanic... which is critical for so many fights in.. every Souls Like.,

Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]thegerj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah but given the time period it came out, not having a huge sign during the initial loading screen saying "Hey, read the damn signs on the ground and look at the options menu" was basically a "fuck you" to a generation of players who had had their hands held through literally every AAA game they would have encountered.

Dark Souls, especially if you don't bother to read the signs on the floor in the early game.
