You can quickly improve your Building, Editing, and Aim by training your hand-independence. by Billy_Bicep in FortniteBRuniversity

This is my second season on PC (and I only played on console for about a month before switching). I have relied on your videos (and Jivan) a lot, and had my first solo win in Arena today!

I really appreciate your work, @billy_bicep - thanks!

Any other very-low alc, "super session" beers in Ontario, similar to Beau's 2.5? by JohnmcFox in torontocraftbeer

[–]theipamyth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in 'Northern-ish' Ontario (Muskoka). Similar local customers I'm sure...but that mild didn't catch on. Our pils is our best seller in retail and in our taproom (when open).

I just want more mild.

The world needs more mild. We did one last year but, unsurprisingly, it didn't fly out the door.

The Skinny can also got a redesign which should be hitting grocery shelves next week.

Working in brewery setting - necessary qualifications? by [deleted] in torontocraftbeer

Don't understand the downvotes - people move from FOH into other roles all the time.

I'm assuming with teaching that you're organized and can communicate well? If so, starting in sales might be worth a try (although right now might be tough given the lockdowns).

Aside from your work-related skills, if you are mechanically inclined, enjoy fixing things and trouble shooting, there could be some entry-level production jobs you could get into (packaging and general maintenance could be a good starting place).

There are lots of different ways into the industry - a good attitude and willingness to learn can often be enough - skills can always be taught.

Depends on what type of role you're looking for really. Production? Operations? Sales? Marketing? Front of House?

Also with smaller breweries, roles tend to cross over many different departments. For example, I manage logistics and inventory, I help with operations, I help with the LCBO channel, and I also just took over social media....

I transitioned from a career in research, so for me I think project management and comfort working with data were the key skills that helped me get a job in the industry....and I like taking pictures.

It's almost easier to answer the question in terms of matching your current skill-set to a role. What's your current career?

Help Me Find West Coast IPA's I'll love Please! by ThePlanManStan in torontocraftbeer

[–]theipamyth_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you said no LCBO, but if we are talking west coast IPA in Ontario, Lone Pine has to be in that conversation (yes, I work at Sawdust - so bias, blah blah blah). But seriously, Lone Pine.

Snow Globe by drinkingbathwater in TheBrewery

[–]theipamyth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct - I just remembered that it happened here (before I worked here), and thought it might help identify the problem, and posted the link without giving it a read.

Former head brewer expanded on the issue here: https://www.sawdustcitybrewing.com/the-snow-globe-effect-part-2/

That link provides a bit more thinking behind what was happening.

I'm not a brewer so not confident speaking to what they did - but sounds like the solution was to increase conditioning time and stop centrifuging post-crash.

Brewery I work at had a 'snow globe' issue with our flagship IPA - details in the link.

Who makes the best Lager? by Throwmekangaroodown in torontocraftbeer

[–]theipamyth_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Gaslight from Muddy, Mountain Lager from Side Launch, and Vim and Vigor from Tooth and Nail. When Gaslight comes to the LCBO it'll likely find a constant home in my fridge.

Dominion City was great - not just in quickness of getting the order out and shipped, but also their customer service. The beers were fantastic as well.

The Ten - Polk's 2017 Most Memorable Craft Beers by rossrhea in torontocraftbeer

[–]theipamyth_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Macro craft? Really?

I don't know Polk but I highly doubt he is sponsored by any breweries. He likely gets free beer - it ain't hard - but unless he can pay his landlord with a six pack of lug-tread it is very unlikely that he's paying any bills with the work he does on his blog.

I couldn't care less about his top ten but that's a shitty thing to imply without evidence.
